I vote for the Nikon 7800 as well, even better value now that it has been discontinued
You being a Nikon shooter look at the Nikon P7800. It has a viewfinder, shoots raw and has a hot shoe so you can use your Nikon Speedlight. This is a recently discontinued model and Best Buy was blowing them out for $200, normally $549.
I would recommend the Nikon 7800 as well. These are now discontinued seeing that the P9000 is on the way.
Shop around I picked one up last week for my sons gf at Best Buy brand new in box for only $200. This is for a camera that just a month ago was selling for $549!!
Well my son and his girlfriend were over on Sunday. She will be graduating from grad school next month and is taking a trip to Europe with her sister. She wanted a small camera to take with her and always liked my P7800 and wanted her parents to get her one for a graduation gift,
I stopped into Best Buy in Manchester on my lunch yesterday and going thru the camera department as I usually do there they had two brand new in the box Nikon P7800 marked $200.
Asked the sales associate were they returns, open box etc? Nope they were told to blow them out in anticipation of the P900 coming in. Texted my son told him that I would pick it up, got back to me after he spoke with his girlfriend and said go for it,
Six months ago I paid $549, she gets one for $200! Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time (-;
Does the 2.8 stay constant thru the zoom range or does it get smaller at 2000
The P7800 is highly discounted now in anticipation of the upcoming P9000.Best Buy has it on sale now for $412.
It shoots raw, has an evf, pop-up flash, hot shoe, articulating lcd screen and all of the dslr settings that you can use.
I would go with the P7800 as well, also has an excellent electronic viewfinder and highly articulated LED screen. Also the front of the lens is threaded so you can add filters, hoods etc.
I couldn't be happier with mine!!

Pretty complete package if you as me.
You can great deals on the P7800 now, seeing the new P9000 will be coming out soon.
I have the p7800 which I love, shoots raw and has a hot shoe which the new one does not,
I have a Canon MG7520 that I am very happy with. Can be had for $150 on sale
