The Nikon P900 has just been released with an 83X zoom lens giving it a 2000MM equivalent zoom lens!
It might just be time for me to finally get a bridge camera!

Sounds pretty decent for $600! http://www.dpreview.com/articles/7120915392/nikon-introduces-coolpix-p900-with-whopping-83x-optical-zoom-range

Just how good are the images this camera produces at the longer focal lengths is something to look into.

It will save you a lot of walking! F2.8-6.5 24-2000mm equivalent zoom

The specs certainly are impressive. But if I will only get fuzzy, low contrast images with lots of chromatic aberration at the extended focal lengths... I think I'd rather walk and do it right. I'm not a paparazzi photographer who needs to get the shot, regardless of image quality sacrifice.

The specs don't look too bad, but I don't understand why it doesn't have raw capture.

Ca'mon Erik, it's the Nikon way.
RAW will come out on the 900a model in a few months.
First they need to sell the crap out of it, then when everybody has one, they stick you with RAW!!

Nikon does have that bad habit of releasing some additional feature six months after the original release of a model. RAW in the coolpix PXXX, however, hasn't been there and probably won't on the P900 either.

I had a P90 (predecessor of the P100/P500 etc) five or six years ago. It took pretty good jpg images, but the lack of RAW capability was one of the reasons I abandoned that line of cameras.

Dare I, a lowly Nikon shooter, agree with you on this? What would my friends say?

Don't you have some RAW reviews about Nikon to go hang on Amazon or somewhere?

WOW! That sounds impressive but ...

I don't have a 2000 mmm lens but I do a 500 mm and with a 1.4 tc it's around 750 mm. Though it's got a image stabilizer and though I mount it on a tripod and use a fast shutter speed, it's a challenge to get sharp images.

I can't imagine trying to get a sharp image with a point and shoot camera at such long telephoto values.

It can give you bragging rights at the local pub to be sure, but at 83x will it also provide top quality images? I'll be interested to see what happens before I will consider buying one. In my experience there are practical limits to long lenses and I think 2000 mmm is beyond those practical limits.
