I remembered from the last solar eclipse reading that welding glass is not necessarily safe, so I did a Bing search. The information from a couple sites was that welder's glass is not normally safe. In order to be safe, the glass has to be rated at level 14 or higher. The sites also said that level of welder's glass may be hard to find. At any rate, make sure you research carefully before you buy.

I agree with burkphoto; however, I remember reading about a university research team that, decade by decade, studied peoples’ attention spans. From the 1960s to the 1990s attention spans shrunk by quite a bit. In other words, where people once would gladly read a three or four page article in a magazine, as time went on, they were not as willing to do that. When I started in photography in 1968, photo magazines, like Peterson’s, ran long articles as did Pop Photo and Modern Photo. As time went on, I noticed that their articles got shorter and shorter until many of them were just one page long including photos. I always assumed that their editors realized that readers would no longer take the time to read long articles. That could be part of the explanation why photographers will not take the time to read long camera manuals.

The thing to consider is not what AI can do and look like today but what it will be able to do and look like in the future. Not many people were willing to ditch their film cameras for digital cameras when they first appeared. But how many people would ditch their digital cameras for film cameras today. Not many. It is conceivable that in the future AI could do a better job than what a regular photographer could do. Perhaps in the future all "photography" will be done by "nerds" sitting in front of a computer not by a photographer in the field.

I don't know but Malware Bytes blocked it as a risky web page for me.

And I thought I was the only one. I’ve always felt that the videos, while okay, were demos of the “see what I can do” variety instead of actually being instructive. Just my opinion, other may disagree.

If it were me, I would, of course take the cell phone. I would also take my little Sony PS camera which has a nice zoom lens and takes really great pictures. I would also take my Canon DSLR, leave it in the bag in the car or the hotel room for the first day and see if the cell phone and PS camera are all I really need. If not, I can get the DSLR and use that too. That way all the bases are covered so to speak.

My aging Dell computer, which is usually reliable and pretty responsive, has become a sloth.
Dell XPS 435MT 2009 vintage
Intel i7, 2.67 GHz
24 GB RAM
64 bit Windows 10 - Home version
C drive: 1 terabyte SSD
D drive: 1 terabyte SSD
E drive: 500 Gigabyte spinning drive

All discs have been defragged and optimized within the windows operating system. All have about 1/3 unused capacity.
Task master shows 5% CPU, 16% memory, 10% disk usage
I run Microsoft Office and Adobe Lightroom

Within the past week, all activity has nearly stopped. I can open files. I can run all applications, but with outrageously slow response. I tried to copy files from one drive to another....the system ran all night, and shows it it is 1% complete. The "discovery" phase of the copy took about 12 hours. The "copy" part has made no progress since I got up this morning. The copy application is moving, but at 200 bytes / sec, then 0, then something between. No measurable progress.

The only recent change in software was a Lightroom update, but all activity is slow, regardless of drive or application.

I don't know where to look further. Any suggestions (other than the perhaps inevitable Costco trip) are welcome.

Thanks for your thoughts.

My aging Dell computer, which is usually reliable ... (show quote)

Do you routinely delete your temp files. I have a relatively old computer (not as old as yours) which took forever to start up. I happened to find a piece of paper that recommended deleting temp files to speed up the computer. I had never deleted any and must have had thousands sitting on my computer. Once I deleted them my startup time took a fraction of the time it had previously taken. Now I delete the temp files all the time.

I have Perfectly Clear 3, but stopped using it because it rarely ever improves my photos. Photolemur 3 does a better job, but not that much better. Usually, I just wind up in Luminar AI, so I didn't see much point in paying for Radiant Photo. I'll wait for the reviews, but it's still unlikely I'll buy it.

If you are doing this for free, then I don't see how anyone could complain about the results. My only piece of advice would be that you need to be totally in charge of the photography. Make them do what you want done and when and don't put up with any attempts from the guests or even the wedding party to run things. I'm not saying be closed to reasonable suggestions, but you have to be in charge and act like it.

It's ironic that with inflation roaring out of control and a possible recession looming, lots of photographers will no longer be able to afford those newly expensive items, so they will just sit on the shelves gathering expensive dust. I feel sorry for the photo retailers who will get hurt by these increases.

I have to admit that it does bother me a bit to replace a sky with a sky that was taken by someone else. So what I do is to try to carry my Sony point and shoot camera with me wherever I go, and if I see a particularly good sky that can be used later on, I shoot it. If I use one of my skies in my own photos, at least I know the entire photo is mine. If I were a journalist, I wouldn't do that. But if you look at your photographs as a form of art, rather than as a form of journalism, I think it's acceptable. Having said all that, I still think that any photograph that looks great without that kind of manipulation is better.

Most all the later ones had removable backs, thus the QL system could not be incorporated.

Thanks. I had forgotten that as the reason.
