If you choose to upgrade your current PC with more RAM and a new graphics card, be sure to verify that you power supply is adequate for the increased power draw. Some of the better cards use a surprising amount of power.

I would go with either a Panasonic G95 or Olympus E-M5 iii with the Panasonic 14-140 ii lens. These combinations are much lighter than your Nikon setup and will provide image quality almost as good. You may find the G95 easier to learn, but the E-M5 has a number of functions that the G95 doesn't have. You should be aware that m4/3 uses an aspect ratio of 4:3 whereas your Nikon is 3:2. Years ago I went from the Nikon D7100 to Olympus bodies with a mix of Olympus and Panasonic lenses. I don't regret the change one bit.

I have the new OM-1 and really like it for the various upgrades over the EM-1 iii, especially because of its much faster processing speed for subject detect AF and the various computational modes. I suggest you look at this thread on mu-43.com: https://www.mu-43.com/threads/new-om-1-owners-what-has-impressed-you-the-most.115005/

Yes it does. It is not as comprehensive as LR's catalog, but it is there. One of the things On1 stores exclusively in its catalog are Albums, similar to LR's Collections.

I am trying the ON1 software on their trial. I have been reading about backing up when using ON1. Seems as though some are concerned about not being able to retrieve the full editing.
I have always backed up my entire computer (Win 10) to 2 external HD’s and the cloud. I use a 5 incremental and then a full every 5th time.
Sidecars are enabled on my ON1.
Is there still something I need be worried about?

I raised that question with On1 support and their response was 'do a full system backup'. On1 does not have a built-in backup system for their catalog. The sidecar files contain all your edit information, but some of their other features are in the catalog only. As far as I am concerned, the lack of a catalog backup facility is a deal-breaker. If I had to restore the catalog from a full system backup, I would be back-leveling my HD, a situation I consider untenable. Support did say they are working on a solution that would involve On1 Sync.

When I was using DSLR's, I preferred the 3x2 aspect ratio, but since switching to Olympus, I have come to prefer the 4x3, which is much more like classic paintings and closer to 'standard' frame sizes. I think it's just a matter of what you get used to.

The delay in focusing reported above is no longer a problem in the newer mirrorless cameras. Many people prefer the electronic VF; others like their old optical VFs.

Olympus E-M1 ii -- light, relatively compact, weather resistant, great selection of lenses, great image quality, terrific ergonomics, fast.

But where is the border collie? No dog photo is complete without a BC. It may be a composite, but if so, why are some of the dog's faces almost hidden behind their neighbors. The hard part would be getting them to all sit still at the same time. Getting them to look at the camera simultaneously is easy -- just toot a duck call or squeeze a squeeky toy.

At the pixel level, noise will be exactly the same, but you may notice more noise from the cropped image because it will have to be enlarged more to get the same output size.

Which camera body are you mounting the 18-270 on? That lens is for an aps-c camera and will vignette severely on full-frame, which sounds like your problem.

Actually, you don't need an adapter if you use one of the very few m-mount lenses. You only need one to use ef and efs lenses.

I agree on an alarm system, with cameras as a backup. Simplisafe.com has a do-it-yourself alarm system that is inexpensive and easy to install yourself. They also offer optional monitoring for as low as $14.95/mo.
