My wife and I are going on an African safari in a few weeks, and need some advise about the correct voltage adaptors. I will NOT need voltage converters, just the physical adaptors.

We are going to both Kenya and Tanzania. I understand that a Type G will work in Kenya, but not sure about Tanzania. Can any of the world traveling UHH folks advise me?

Thanks, Carl

Tanzania uses both type D AND G for their lug adapters

"All boils down to whether you want a tourists camera or a photographers camera."

I consider the Sony RX100 VII to be both. My thinking is that bulky stuff gets in the way of both photographers and tourists.

I have the Sony RX100 VII - no trouble taking 16 x 20 lovely photos

I found a lens I've wanted on MPB, at a good price. Seeing lots of positive reviews (including here on UHH) I decided to make the purchase.

I called MPB, asking to place an order over the phone. Told I can't do it, must use web. Ok.

So I placed my order on the web, then got phone call for "security clearance." Fine, I can understand that: it was a big ticket item, and nobody wants to be scammed.

After a few legitimate questions (credit card, shipping address, etc.) they asked if I was an amateur or a professional. Seemed odd, but I played along. Next, what would I be using the lens for? Did I have other Nikon equipment? Had I ever used any other camera brands? I answered, but said I found the questions intrusive, probably more for marketing than for security.

The order went through, but then 3 days later I got an email saying the order was cancelled because it had "not passed our security checks process." I called, and was told that while my credit card had been approved for the purchase, they wouldn't accept my order. I asked to speak to a manager, and was told none were available. They'd get back to me. 3 hours later, no call.

So I've bought the lens from KEH -- slightly more expensive, but no hassles, and much better return policy.

Me too..no more MPB.
I live in NY City.
Went to MPB a few years ago, showed them a lens I wanted to sell.
They examined it, and then told me they would sent me an email quote
That seemed strange, why not give the quote to me there.
Got the quote...it was ok.
Brought the lens back to them with a copy of the email.
They then said they gave me too high a quote and wanted to lower it by $10.
I walked out of the place!!

Going to the apple in March, and I had this great original idea of shooting a pano skyline shoot. If anyone has had this same original idea, where would you recommend to be a great location?
Also what lens did you use?
TIA

HI,

I cannot tell you about a pano photo, but to me the best
photo of NY City is at night from the Staten Island Ferry (which is free to ride)
coming back from Staten Island to NY. Beautiful with the city lit up.

Also, I have a write-up on NY City that I give to my friends
There is stuff in it that you will not find in guidebooks
and if you do, this is much easier to read.
If you wish it, send me your email.

I had the same thing 20+ years ago I had a bandage on for a couple weeks and my scar healed so if your dermatologist does a good job you'll have a scar but not very noticeable as mine did and full use/vision.
Good luck

I have had Mohs surgery 4 times. Not a big deal if you have a good surgeon.
I would think it will not be a problem with your vision.
What did your surgeon say and did you choose one who has done similar Mohs surgery
before, on that part of your face?

Our 16 year old granddaughter has requested some kind of digital camera for Christmas, she wants one that is lightweight but still has ISO/aperture/shutter speed controls. It should accept filters but does not necessarily need to support interchangeable lenses, but a step up from iPhone or point-and-shoot cameras. (I think lightweight is a key consideration.)

One that she suggested is the NEZINI 4K digital camera, not a brand I am familiar with.

Any suggestions?

I would not get your granddaughter the Nezini as it is a piece of junk.

And I would NOT get her a DSLR camera. They are going the way of the Dinosaur.

I would definitely get her a MIRRORLESS camera. Sony, Nikon & Cannon all have lower price models.
Myself, I prefer Sony but they are all good.

That would be the Sony RX100vii. In the serious cameras that are pocket sized, it is the top of the heap in both price and image quality.

I second the SONY RX100 VII. The best bridge camera. Have taken it from Antarctica to Namibia
with great results. 24-200 lens. If purchasing also get Alexander White's book on the camera.
Very well written and it covers everything!

I personally think it is "overkill" showing that many images.

You viewers will get bored.

I keep my photos to about 150 in in a viewing and never have had a complaint.

What is missing is in the question. What are the best practices? I am starting to sound like Paul of Chicago. First, start with a newly formatted chip in that camera by that camera. Second, until the data is captured directly from the chip and is uploaded in two places, do not format the chip. I am about to go on a two-week shoot with two cameras that are capable of exchanging cards. I will not format the chips even though backed up to the portable and external drive (2) until I run out of capacity on multiple chips. When I return home, I will upload from the saved chips unless I must depend on the portable for the solution. My Nikons chips show the name of the camera from which it came. This tells you right away, albeit small, there is a difference. You spend thousands on equipment and travel, not having enough chips makes no sense. FAQ - can you take a chip used in one camera and format it\use it in the other camera? Yes...no problem.

I once put a card from my D7100 into my Z50.
It worked fine, but when I imported into PSE, it identified the card as D7100.
The pictures were fine, but now I reformat so that the ID conforms to the camera.

TRADITION !!! UHH Sacred Tradition. UHHST requires asking the clown car how to execute a patently stupid plan. In the real world each camera uses its own card(s) and this idiotic conundrum never arises.

If its a $$ problem, sell off one camera. If you cant afford two cards then you cant afford two cameras. Sell one and buy some groceries.

You have the 2 cameras you can try it out and see what happens. I think the 2 cameras will put the images in different folders. Also I think it would still work if you didn't initially format the card.
But I wouldn't do that.

Hello,
I have a Sony RX10 IV. Every time I turn it on
it asks for the Language (I click English)
and Date / Time (I click cancel)

In the MENU for language I already have "English",
so I don't understand why this is recurring.

Is there a way I can eliminate this step?

Many thanks.

I have 2 cameras; Sony RX10 IV and Sony RX100 VII

If I put a memory card in the RX 10 IV and format it, then take
some photos, can I then just take the card and put it in the RX100 VII
and continuing taking photos?

Also, if I cannot do the above, would I be about to do it if I did not initially
format the card?

Many thanks,
Larry

What kind of photography do you do? What are the two full frame zoom lenses you use? You might also consider a "mega zoom" type camera with built in lens, like the Sony RX 100 (m7 or other depending on your budget and needs) or the Sony RX10 m IV or a micro 4/3 camera (ie. OM systems). There are lots of choices these days and most will work well for different photographs though some are better for others.

I have the SONY RX100 VII with it 24-200 lens.
A fantastic small camera that I have taken all over the world.
