Be honest, trying to figure out which one I want to put on Canvas and give my daughter for her birthday. I think I like this one, but any opinions would be great. thanks. I like this one because there are no people and I think the birds add a nice touch. But what do you think of the palm on the right side?

I have viewed all of the posts in this tread, looked at your wonderful image. . .and I have concluded that this image is not well suited for canvas. I think it would look better done on 140 lb Arches cold press watercolor paper. More in keeping with the subject matter as well.

I have taken your image and applied a canvas texture, and then with a coldpress watercolor texture. With the canvas, you tend to loose the birds more so than with the watercolor look. To me, the key to canvas with photos (I have done a number), is that the image needs to not just look like a photo on canvas. I think people need to be fooled at first glance, if you will, into thinking what they are looking at is a painting on a canvas. Not a photo on canvas.

Because of the subject matter and the colors here, I think it would look tons better printed on the above noted watercolor paper. And, if done right, people will be certain that they are looking at a very fine watercolor.

I have included a third image, showing how one could deckle the edge of the watercolor, float the image, and double matt up near the image. It is rough, but I think the idea comes through.

Whatever you end up doing, I am certain that your daughter will love it.

Wow, I have never seen the third one before. How would I get that done. It makes it so fun! I have done quite a few on canvas myself and love the effect. However you bring out many good points on this photo and it's look on canvas... Have never done the watercolor type. Interested. Could you explain in a bit more detail? thank you so much.....

Thanks all! Yes the weather here is beautiful, but like a lot of the States, it is warm and mild. So here is the shot I have worked on. I am using a new program, so bear with me. Let me know what you think of this>

Something else you might think about before putting it to canvas .. is brightening the colors just a tiny bit.

I don't know what editing software you have but in photoshop .. go to the filters menu/sharpen/unsharpen mask .. set the amount to 20, the radius to 5 and the threshold to 0 ...
It won't sharpen it but it will make the colors stand out just a tiny bit more especially in the structure.

In elements .. enhance menu/unsharpen mask ...same settings.
Here is an example to show you the difference.

Yeah! thanks for all of your help. You know, I took 5 years of film school, (this may or may NOT make me look like a good photographer), in film a million years ago. And my favorite part was when I wasn't happy with a photo and wasn't sure why, nothing better than putting it out there and having feedback. Thanks again so much... It may seem like simple things that I should have thought of, but I didn't and you all helped! I have to admit, I love this digital world. Just don't tell my old professors I said that!

Thank you Jean I as well as my wife love the lighthouses. My wife Loves Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and she did one out of ceramic that was 36 inches tall with a revolving beacon.Once again we love any and all pictures of the old lighthouses that any one has.

Where in South Dakota are you? Ever heard of Tabor?

OK, this is kinda weird, but I must share with you for your wife, that my husband was conceived in Cape Hatteras. It was 1941 and his father was stationed there as a doctor in the war. They lived in the caretakers house connected to the lighthouse, in the old days! (we went to visit a couple years ago and they have moved everything, but the museum now, was actually his home he was conceived and born in!) Just a little FYI! :-)

Great pictures, Jean where are they taken of what lighthouse.

I just wrote you an answer and then went to back to make sure the order was correct and they were totally out of order... Ooopppss! :-)

So here is the correct order. First one is Jupiter Inlet off Jupiter Florida. The next is Pemaquid lighthouse off Pemaquid, Maine. And the third is Rams Head lighthouse off Pemaquid Maine.
