That’s odd, I always thought that it was a technical term used by civil engineers who built bridges to take photos of their work. Thank you for clarifying my ignorance. BTW, compare an RX 100 mvii to an early RX 10 and then explain to me the difference between a P&S and a Bridge. Or is that one just “too far”?

I am trying to put together a kit to cover all of the bases for our October trip to the Middle East. I primarily shoot stills, but some 4K is not out of the question. I’d prefer not to carry a trunk for my equipment so my thought process was a Sony RX 100m5 and a m7 with a cage/bracket for either a microphone or second small flash/light cube. This covered me with a 1.8 and an ND filter and wide angle 24mm to 200mm in reach. Extra batteries of course. However I just saw a YouTube that addressed the usefulness of the 100m5 and the 10m4. I’d still be limited to 24mm but now I’m up to 600 at a cost of a much bigger kit. I would then have the benefit of an ND filter and can still shoot 4K on either set up. But now I need to bring more stuff; double batteries with chargers, a tripod in addition to the plodypads; and more junk, but this is a once in a lifetime trip. BTW, if Sony announces the 10m5 and releases it before the third week in October, then I’m taking the 100m5 and the 10m5!

So what are your thoughts and suggestions?

Insight is what HOGS do best and I thank you for yours. The remaining issue is my wife - you can fill in the blanks. You know how that one goes. Thanks again.

I’m going to Israel, Jordan (Amman and Petra) and Egypt in late October. I’m obsessing about what camera bag to pack and whether I should just stick with my SONY RX 10 IV and it’s brother the 100 V or get a Canon 28 to 300 zoom and stick it on my 80D and call it a day. If I go with the 80 D I know that I’m going to have to lug some of my wide angle glass (at a minimum my EF-S 10 to 18) and have to deal with changing lenses and carrying a much heavier bag. While if I go with the Sonys, I’m only loosing 18 mm (from the EF-S 10mm to the Sony’s 28 mm on the short side but gaining almost double the zoom on the long end.

Did I just talk myself into the Sonys? Thoughts or suggestions?

I believe that most of the people here are missing one important point. Most if not all states that impose a sales tax also impose a compensating use tax. The obligation to pay the compensating use tax is on the person who purchases the taxible item and brings it into the state.

So if you live in a sales tax state and have played it straight, then all of your vendors have been playing in a level playing field. If you haven’t been paying the compensating use tax then ......... I think that you get it.

Thanks for the warning. I’m leaning towards the 80D with the 10-18, the 24 prime and the 24-105.

Thanks to everyone for their .02

I will be in Amsterdam in April and hope to to shoot tulips, windmills and the red light district (not necessarily in that order). I am planning to shoot primarily stills. I can bring either a Sony RX 10 iv and call it a day or pack a Canon 80D with any of the following lenses EF-S 10-18, 24, 18-135 and EF L 24-105, 70-200.

Suggestions or thought?
