What a great thread! It sort of proves my point about hobbies,.....

Photography can be enjoyed by all ages,....I think using the equipment keeps the brain sharp,.....well, maybe not sharp, but still functioning.

My wish, especially for the "senior" fellas and ladies,.....keep shooting and buying new cameras and stuff!

I was thinking about that just the other day when viewing what I would say were just snapshots, yet from decades ago. While artistry certainly makes a picture much better, sometimes what is caught in that snapshot goes beyond the question of artistry. It may be just the individual or individuals captured and documented. I have tons of these unartistic photos passed on to me of my family going back before I was born. I wouldn't toss any of them.

I love photography, but never considered it an artistic endeavor. For me, it's about having fun with good cameras while grabbing some memories,....

Extended Teleconverter, Intelligent Zoom, Clear Image zoom, etc are all variations of combining digital with optical zoom. Or, sometimes you reduce the size of the picture, say from 16mp to 8mp and it gives you more optical zoom.

On many forums, this discussion leads to a lot of arguing, which I stay away from. The argument is that it's nothing but "in camera cropping",.....well, maybe that's how some see it, but I find several advantages, including better metering and being able to see the attitude of distant animals. It works for me.

Specifically, the Panasonic IZ works beautifully to 800mm and the Canon SX50 works great to 2400mm. Both of these are 2X optical.

I just signed up today and look forward to participating in the forum discussions.

I'm an old retired guy and love photography and hunting with my two Setters. We don't go at it too hard anymore but it's a good opportunity to take a few pictures and get the dogs some running.

I have several cameras, DSLRs, m43s, and point and shoots. My favorites are a Canon SX50 and a Panasonic FZ1000. I love long zoom photography. I shoot for fun and don't take my hobby too seriously.

It seems like I'm always wanting a new camera. Right now, I "need" more zoom and hope the new Canon SX60 turns out to be a good one.

Hi Folks,....First time on this forum. I just signed up after seeing a nice Canon SX60 shot of a hummingbird.
I have several cameras, including DSLR and m43 types. However, I find the superzoom bridge cameras the most useful to me. I'm a long zoom nut. We take two trips to Teton/Yellowstone each year and I love to fire away at the distant animals. Also we spend a couple months in Idaho, where I have a unique opportunity to photograph very, very, distant animals from the deck of my home. My wife finds the Elk and Deer with her 15X binoculars and I take the pictures. These animals are often barely visible to the naked eye. For these shots, I use everything I can get out of my Canon SX50, extended teleconverter, giving me 2400mm. Obviously, I don't get all keepers, but I have surprisingly good results. It's great fun.

With that in mind, I am always looking for more zoom. My first choice is the Canon SX60 and I'm hoping the reviews get better. I read the professional reviews but find that user comments are more valuable to me.

Thanks for any input.

Jack
