I would think that if you have a tattooed face, robbing banks may not be such a good idea. "I am sorry Ms. Teller, can you describe the person that robbed you?" "No sir, Officer, I was too busy reading his face."

I find the 70-300 is on my camera more than it is not. It is easy to handhold. The biggest issue other than speed is no tripod collar unless you spend another $200. The attached was shot with this lens on a 5D MkII.

Kebler Pass between Crested Butte and Paonia in central Colorado goes through the middle of one of the largest aspen forests in the US. The last couple of weeks of September through the first week or two of October are the best, depending upon weather conditions.

Rocky Mountain National Park on both the East and West sides can provide spectacular images as well. In addition to aspen you have elk, moose, pika, deer, big horn sheep, wild turkeys and a lot of mountain vistas to set your shutter finger aquiver.

There is also Independence Pass between Leadville and Aspen, Colorado.

As a native of Northern Wyoming all areas from the Grand Tetons to wet and the Big Horn Mountains near Sheridan offer outstanding opportunities as well, and traditionally the Aspen will change here earlier than in Colorado so it is possible to hit both on an extended road trip.

If the lens attaches to your lips, I am afraid to ask how you use the tripod....

I never use a lens without a UV filter. It is solid protection and a filter is a whole lot cheaper to replace than the front glass.

I spend a lot of time shooting in Rocky Mountain National Park and see this type of thing all the time. The ones I really love are the people holding up their tablets to a moose or elk to take the shot.

It has two stems remaining of its antlers. We have been tracking moose in this area of the park all year long, this guy (without spoons) is probably a three year old and had very small spoons. He actually looked comical earlier this fall.

This past Saturday in Rocky Mountain National Park I captured these two bulls conjuring up the Roman God Janus, as it to say it is the time of year to look at the past year's accomplishments, and look forward to the coming New Year.

Happy New Year

I have been shooting wildlife for over thirty years with nothing larger than a 100-400. This is due to the fact that I cannot afford a 500 or 600mm and I really don't want to tote that kind of bazooka into the field. I agree with many others it is better to get closer - within limits. A photographer should never get so close to a wild animal that it stresses the animal, changes its behavior in any manner or puts him/herself or others in peril.

I carry the Cannon 100-400f/4.5-5.6 IS L and the 70-300 f/4-5.6L and shoot on both full frame and the APS-C sensor. Both lenses are in the $1500-$1600 range so they will not break the bank. If I had to choose, I would go with the 100-400 which would be 160-640mm on your body

Both of the attached were shot with the 100-400.
