Spot on! Thank you. Since the cellphone arrived, a paradigm shift has occured. The cellphone photos and videos are quickly replacing the high-end camera.

What say you?

Greetings!

I've been doing above-average quality photography for over 45 years now using Minolta, Sony, and Nikon gear over the years (cameras and lenses). I am just a hobby photographer, and I like to take photos that to me are a cut above the average cellphone pic.

All technology evolves and usually improves. New and improved versions of product A,B,C,D etc. supposedly get better every couple of years, so "Buy the new and improved model and you will be happier". (and we got you to spend more money). Been there, done that.

I reached a point in life maybe 5 years ago when I realized the current photographic gear I currently have is very adequate for all my photographic needs. I no longer buy new cameras or lenses.

Here is my current gear:

Nikon D7200

Lenses:

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II Lens

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR Lens

AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G

SB-700 Speedlight

Various filters

For me, this is all the gear I need.

Any constructive feedback? Thanks.

Quick question: The Nikon SB 700 came out in 2010. Has there been any improvements made to it over the years? Put another way: What's the difference between an SB 700 made in 2010 vs. one made in 2022?

Here's why: I bought one in 2011 and have had wonderful results with it. I haven't used it in 2 years and when I looked at it yesterday the batteries were badly corroded and the entire well that holds the batteries has corrosion powder on the terminals and all over the inside. (When I lived in the Philippines I bought what I thought were bona fide Duracells, but they turned out to be counterfeit. They leaked unlike the countless REAL Duracells that were always top notch and NEVER leaked)

So, I learned how to clean out the corrosion using distilled vinegar. I can do that with no problem. But if the units made today are better than my current one that was made in 2011, I may easily take the easy way out and just buy a new SB 700. Otherwise I'll clean my current one. All replies will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for all the suggestions regarding learning "Lightroom".

And a special thanks to the ones who so nicely edited that photo. :)

Greetings!

Recently I purchased "Lightroom" and have been watching a few tutorials on how to use the software. Damn! It's much more complex than I expected it to be, yet I will persist with the tutorials until I become reasonably competent with it.

Can anyone recommend some excellent tutorials for "Lightroom"? All suggestions will be appreciated.

My friend recently sent me this photo, and I would like to enhance it so it looks proper. I tried using "Lightroom", but at this point I just cannot figure it out.

Would anyone kindly enhance it and then post it back here? I would greatly appreciate it. :)

Thank you very much

I am looking for some advice on an external hard drive with a capacity of 2 tb.

I have used Seagate and western digital in the past.

what is the current best brand for reliability.

Your thoughts please!

For over 10 years I have used Western Digital external hard drives.

1) several destop book-sized ones
2) several "My Passport" small ones with huge amounts of storage

I never had one problem with any of the perhaps 8 of them I bought.

Can anyone shed some light on this camera? I've seen these types on the internet and always wondered what market this is targeted toward.

A compact $5000 camera seems so strange to me, that I really would like to know why someone would buy one and if they are worth the money. Who buys these cameras?

Thanks

I have bought 3 of these so far with absolutely zero problems. I have one 2TB and two 4TB.

I have ALL my thousands of digital photo files on these (plus many other kinds of files). I use them all to backup my photo and other files.

(Also, in the past I bought 3 WD desktop external drives, and all were excellent with zero issues.)

In 1994 I bought a Minolta 400si and several prime lenses. One of those lenses was the Minolta 100mm F/2.

That 100 F/2 was probably my favorite lense of all times. Outstanding for portraits and other shots. Extremely sharp!

In 2007, I bought the Sony A100, since it would take all the automatic Minolta lenses I had.

Here is a sample shot using the Sony A100 & the Minolta 100mm F/2 lense:

I am relatively new to digital photography beyond "Point and Shoot" and am looking to buy something modern and more versatile. Perhaps one of the members would care to explain the difference between Full Frame versus APS-C, as in Full Frame sensor and Crop sensor.

This may answer your question right from the start:

"For email, social site use, Web display, and even slide shows (we don't use slide projectors any more, we use HD video outputs), you're not going to see a difference between DX and FX, so buy what you can afford. Hmm. That would raise DX sales and lower FX sales if Nikon made that marketing message, and the profit margins on FX are higher, so any guesses as to why they don't trumpet this message? ;~)"
