i especially like the flowers. the landscape ones are a little hard to focus. but really cool effect. how does it look on people?

i cropped it down a bit more - a little more focal and made the lines harder. when i think of B&W - i think hard lines and stark contrast.

not sure, i'm thinking maybe the lighting and the color of the wall has contributed. maybe try an outdoor photo in RAW before you give up, see what happens. Whenever there's yellow in the background color, it has a tendancy to do strange things. sorry i wasn't more help. good luck.

Went out scouting for locations last weekend & came across 2 buzzards enjoying the sun. Couldn't resist the opportunity. Feel free to add your pictures of barns & buzzards. Have fun!

Thanks all for you're input. Now my next question is where can I get some of these inhancement programs. NO Photoshop, can't afford it and would never comprehend how to use it. Looking for something free and easy to use especially on B&Ws.............

try downloading photoscape (it's free) & gimp is another, although not very user friendly, but free too. Photoscape has some really cool color/b&w featurs - lots & lots of choices. i usually photoscape & picasa together to get it just perfect.:)

Always love B&W so I'm prejudice. If it were my shot I would take the shine off your daughters face---tell me what you think................

seriously, i just love shooting b&w - there's so much more "feeling", - does that make sense?

Been on the Texas State Railroad train many times while I was in college at Texas A&M University and living in Houston.

Following are two pictures of Union Pacific 844 from November 2011 near Palm Springs, California. I took the whole day off to chase 844 through Southern California and got hundreds of pictures and about 40 HD movies. Lot of fun.

way cool!!!

Ok I saturated the color on gimp and cropped. I do realize that I need more sky on top of the "rock".

wow! that looks a thousand times better! keep working. Gimp is a really tough tool. Try downloading Picasa or Photoscape - they're both free & have lots of fun & good options.

ok - try this one

cool train russ. i really like the first shot too - why don't you play around with the colors - they look a little washed out in her blouse & i'm betting they were fabulous.

Natalie,
Do you know anything about chasing the train by road?

this is the train that pulls out of Rusk and backtracks to Palestine. i'm thinking there's a road that follows, but not real close - i goes through mostly wooded area. it's a very short trip though, just a couple of hours.
