However, several sources said to not look through the eyepiece…use live view instead, blah blah blah.

So I did. On live view everything looked good, especially totality. Yes, I took my 18+ ND filter off.

Nothing but black screen on my memory card during totality. Where did I make my mistake?

I used an interval timer so I did get to actually watch and enjoy the eclipse (my main endeavor)…but how did live view mislead me into thinking I was actually getting the images?

Leading up to and away from totality I got pictures…but not totality. Yes, I forgot to adjust SS, but .

What camera were you using? How bright do you have your screen set?

I can set my R5 to simulate exposure. Did you do that?

They are both great lenses. The RF is lighter, effectively sharper (better IS and optics) and doesn’t need the adapter. It is not internally focusing. For astrophotography I would find 70 not wide enough and 200 not long enough. Your mileage may vary.

Covered Clash Miami triathlon event at Homestead Miami Speedway 8-10 March. Americas Triathlon held races to qualify Para-athletes for the US Team going to the Paris Games and to seed potential Olympians for the upcoming qualification race for their national teams. The first races in the new pro series T100 brought the 20 best men and women triathletes in the world to Homestead. Their next stop will be Singapore. There were also amateur and kids races at several distances. Here are a few shots.

Looking for some advice and/or tips. I’m a photo hobbyist who simply enjoys taking pictures; far from being anything close to a pro. I guess to my credit, I’ve been asked to take photos at an upcoming indoor conference, with ~250 delegates and speakers/panelists. I’m assuming the lighting will be poor- the typical spots on the podium and panelists, and low lighting on the audience. I plan to shoot with a Canon 5D, using a 70-200mm 2.8 or 24-70mm 2.8 lens. Speed lite if necessary. Manual mode…use a high ISO, aperture wide open and shutter speed of 400+. Does this seem right? Any suggestions or comments welcome as I’m a bit nervous that I’ll screw it all up. Thx in advance.

I shoot a fair amount of this kind of stuff either as a photojournalist or for the event. With the R versions of your lens and a R5 and R6. My settings would be Aperture Priority F2.8 with ISO adjusted to get a shutter speed of 1/100 or 1/125 for stage shots. For crowd shots and candids play with f-stop to get what you need. No flash for stage shots. Bounce card on flash for everything else.
That said your style your settings.

The US Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights conduct winter training at Homestead Air Reserve Base. Later this year they will compete at the national and world championships, as well as doing between 80 and 100 shows and events in support of Army Recruiting Command.

Night shots were at outrageously high ISO, but Lightroom noise reduction and Topaz Photo AI worked well.
