I see lots of good scenes while I'm driving, but there's no good place to pull over. I keep track of parking areas for a future picture-taking day. A dash cam comes in handy sometimes, depending.

Too many idiots out there.
If I want a picture, I'll pull over.

That there are. I only take photos while driving when in National Parks or other scenic areas with no other vehicles close by, and while driving slowly. Never in traffic. I like out of the way places during off season times. And I do pull over for the best shots when there is a place to pull over. Places like Zion, Bryce Canyon, Death Valley, Kings Canyon, Redwoods, to name some, and on the coastal highway from Washing to southern California there aren't that many places to pull over.

My problem is that lots of times I'm driving , taking shots on back roads and can only use one hand to get camera, turn it on, point and shoot, turn it off , put it back in the storage place in my car ( cup holder ) . While paying attention to the road also. I can't do that with a cell phone or big camera.

One of several reasons I'm keeping my Canon. I can pick it up with one hand, aim and shoot without taking my eyes off the road. I've gotten good at aiming without looking, like shooting from the hip with a gun. Sometimes I still miss a few, but usually they come out good. I can't do that with my phone.

My brother takes iPhone photos with one hand. I've tried using his method, but it didn't work for me.

What about sunlight? My phone is nearly useless outdoors because of the glare and reflection of everything which is behind me. 😟

My cameras with optical viewfinders, however, do not have this problem.

I had the same issue with my previous phone. The S23 Ultra has a super bright screen option that allows you to see the screen even with the brightest sunlight behind you.

Over the weekend, I took pictures with both a Galaxy S10 phone and a little Sony WX9 camera. I wasn't shocked to see that the phone pictures were better. I bought the Sony as a $130 refurb in 2012, and I was shooting in Auto. I like it because it's very small and fits into a belt case. Most of my shots were indoors without a flash.

For casual photography, the phone is a good alternative to the Z8.

I upgraded my phone to the Samsung S23 ultra and am amazed at the quality of the photos. It has the option of taking shots in 12m, 50m, or 200m. Also 4 aspect ratios. I'm far from a pro but have printed many of my photos and have them on our walls, some up to 20x30 with my Canon 80D. Now my phone takes better photos and I always have it with me.

Weather permitting, I like taking hikes on Mt Rainier and carrying the camera and lenses was adding too much weight as I'm not as strong as I used to be. Now I'll just take my phone.

I know there are cameras and lenses that are better than my phone, but I can't afford them. Not that the phone was cheap.

I lived south of 436 off Hattaway Drive for 27 years from 1979. A job took me there.

I NEVER took the boat out on a holiday weekend!
Been to Silver Glenn Springs many times, by boat!
Put in at Sanford and Deland.
I really liked having the Resident's Pass for Disney! I do miss that.
But I finally got tired of sweating 10 months out of the year.
Moved back to PA after the kids got <quasi> stable.

What a coincidence. I grew up in Drexel Hill PA and lived on Genevieve Drive off Hattaway. I never did well in Florida's relentless heat. I used to camp in my boat at the Glen to beat the heat. Also went to Wekiva Marina often, rented a canoe and paddled to the spring head for a swim. Also camped in our RV at Rock Springs. Back in the early 70s I took my boat up Blue Springs to the spring head. Those were the good old days.

Well, when I moved to Altamonte Springs, FL in 1979, the population was 3.500.
When I left in 2006, the population was 35,000.

That's the main reason people don't want people moving to Florida........
Too many people.

Then there are the Snow Birds...............

You can tell when it's Fall in Florida,
The license plates change colors.

I grew up in the Philadelphia area. After serving in the USAF, I moved to Florida in 1969. In 1970, bought a house in Altamonte Springs off Balmy Beach Drive. That was before the Altamonte Mall was built, and before Disney opened. By the time you moved there the town had already more than tripled from 1970 mainly thanks to Disney. Disney totally changed central Florida. In 1980 I moved to the Bear Lake area to get away from the crowds in Altamonte. That area also built up.

Not only did the street traffic keep growing, so did the river and lake boat traffic. The St Johns River got so crowded I'd tow my boat to Deland and head north instead of launching at the boat ramp by the I-4 bridge.

In 1992 I moved to the Pacific NW in the foothills of Mt Rainier, best move I ever made. I shouldn't have said that, we don't need any more people moving here either.

I still visit family and friends in Florida every year, but only in the winter months. We stay in Astoria where it's still peaceful. We rent a pontoon boat to revisit Silver Glen Springs, my favorite place to go every chance I had when I lived there.

Well, my Dad had an advantage, during the war when he and my mother worked for Packard in Detroit he took flying lessons with the Civil Air Patrol and was only 1 hour from his multi engine license when the war ended and the program shut down. He says he and his instructors used to "play" a little over the lakes.

Oh Lord!

My Dad had a similar experience with a buddy of his who was a test pilot for the F4 Phantom. Dad was in DC for hearings about the airline industry (Union Official) and his hunting buddy was there to demo a new version of the Phantom to Congress. Some Senator canceled on his ride and his buddy asked Dad "Want to go for a ride? I either burn off the fuel or they have to pump it out which is a pain to do." Dad said yes, as long as you don't do any wild shi*.

Well, when they got up to altitude his buddy proceeded to wring that plane out, power dives, zoom climbs, upside down Etc. Etc. and then did a speed run out to sea only about 30' above the water, they had a rooster tail from the engines behind them. And when he saw two destroyers just cruising by minding their own business he radioed them and proceeded to make attack runs while the destroyers did anti-air drills. One attack run was upside down. Then he cruised back to the airbase and while pulling in to the assigned parking area for the demo ride, the engine quit, no more fuel.
Dad didn't talk to him for a month. Then their hunting club had a turkey hunt in the Ozarks. Hunting is much more important than being pi$$ed at a guy.
Oh Lord! br br My Dad had a similar experience wi... (show quote)

Funny now, like my father with what my mother put him thru, of course he wasn't pissed off so much as scared. Plus, he still wanted to date my mother. I wonder what ride was worse.

What do you mean she flew with the Flying Tigers? In China? I had an Uncle that flew the Hump taking cargo to the Chinese when the Japanese was attacking them.

No, only when they were stateside helping deliver new planes with the new volunteer Tiger pilots before they left for China. Women pilots were not allowed to go overseas back then.

Thanks for posting this. I laughed so much my stomach hurt and I was laughing tears thru his last flight in the Patriots fighter jet because I could picture my father exactly like that in the story below.

My mother was a pilot in the WAC during WWll delivering supplies and planes stateside. She learned to do stunts. My father was in the Army. After the war ended, they met at the Pentagon and started dating. My mother took him up on a biplane that he was reluctant to try but went. After a while thinking my father was having fun she shot straight up into a stall, dropped down into a loop then flew upside down still thinking my father was having a blast. She said when they landed she got up and my father was just sitting there staring straight ahead and he was green. He never got in a plane with her flying again and he always drove.

One of many planes she flew.

She loved to fly.

She flew with the Flying Tigers.

My parents by the biplane she took him up in. You can tell this was before the flight as he's smiling and his pants are dry.

I spent an unpleasant hour at the doctor's today, while he and a nurse tried to get the wax out of my ear. Ordinarily, it's quick and simple. Not today. I was right at my pain limit, when he said the last bit was too far in for him to keep working at.

I think this is going to be a good investment.

Maybe the doctors office should have a professional one and know how to use it properly.

USAF 1967 to 1969 1st Geodetic Survey Squadron. There is a detailed history of the squadron here; http://1370th.org/gsshistory/gsshistory.htm. I enjoyed working in the data computing office. Later on, I developed medical issues and after spending months going in and out of hospitals, I was given a service-connected medical discharge as I was no longer fit for worldwide duty.

It's made of stainless steel that can't be molded easily, so to keep cost down, no curves. And heaven help anyone hit by one as they won't bend or give, and along with their weight will destroy other vehicles and its passengers.
