Decided to sell my studio strobes because I'm just not using them. Purchased them two years ago and have only used them a dozen or so times so the bulbs are still practically brand new. Here's what's included.

2 Alien Bee 800 strobes + Travel/Storage Bags
1 47" Paul C. Buff Octabox
1 10' general purpose light stand
1 13' heavy duty stand for strobe and octabox
4 Honeycomb filters

All purchased brand new for $850.00

Looking for $550 + shipping for complete package.

This really is the perfect package for someone just starting to get into studio work.

PM me if interested.

Not looking good for a new 100-400L this year. Here's an excerpt I just read on camonrumors.com. I hope they are wrong!!

There is no 100-400 replacement or ultrawide f/2.8L zoom being announced for Photokina. A full frame ultrawide zoom at the same time as the EOS 7D Mark II doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I think a new 100-400 definitely would. Here’s hoping it does indeed come this year.

Let me put it this way. I had the standard 28-135 kit lens on my 7D. A friend of mine kept singing the praises of the "L" lenses. He swears by them and says that's all he will ever use from now on. So, I finally relented and bought the "poor man's" L series - a 70-200mm f4 "L" lens (non-IS). I was blown away by the clarity and "pop" of the pictures I took with the L lens! So much so that I just bought another L lens - the 24-105 "L" IS USM which I managed to snag on sale (new) for $689 (Adorama sells this lens new for $1149, so I felt I got a pretty good deal). I can't wait to try it! I have put my 28-135 kit lens up for sale as I plan to use the 24-105 "L" as my every day lens. It's only f4, but it's "fixed" f4 where my kit lens was f3.5-5.6 max variable across the zoom.

Mind if I ask where you got your 24-105 on sale for $689?

If you move the catalogue to the external drive along with the pictures nothing will be lost. The pictures must be moved from within LR. the catalogue will be moved manually, then you will have to help LR to search for the catalogue. Once this is done, provided that the External is connected, and LR can find the catalogue, there wont be a problem.

Of course if you are only using the main computer to access the picture files, (not two computers) then it will not be necessary to move the catalogue.

That makes sense. Thank you!!!

Have I read this correctly, you are trying to use a catalogue back up as a working file? If this is so, it is not going to work.

You need to have Lightroom installed on both Desktop and Laptop, I assume you have done this.

You should not have Lightroom opened on both machines at the same time especially when the external drive is plugged in.

The external drive should contain all the picture files AND the catalogue together with supporting files such as previews etc.

No images should be stored on either the Desktop nor the Laptop.

The Lightroom catalogue backup should only be accessed and opened if you have a crisis - it should not ever be used as a working file.

You probably have a "situation" arisen due to previous attempts to make this work, so that situation will need sorting out before moving any more photos.

Please post here or PM me the state of play with the files, and I will be happy to assist you sorting out and setting up so that you can have an ordered workflow using both machines.

I have a question along these same lines. I'm in the process of setting up a similar workflow and I'm wondering if there is any way I can move all of my existing pictures and my current LR catalogue from my iMac hard drive to the external drive without screwing up all of my edits. In other words, how are the edits saved in the catalogue? If the location/path of the source file changes is the catalogue smart enough to still apply the edits to the file in the new location on the external hard drive? Or, am I better off just leaving what I currently have on my hard drive there and starting a new catalogue on the external hard drive for all of the pics I start saving on the external from now on? Hope this makes sense, and I apologize if this is considered hijacking the thread. I just figured it was so in line with the content of the thread that it should be okay.

Thinking of trying this out. Looks pretty slick and from what I've read it seems to work fairly well. The question I have about it though is whether or not it will test for both the wide and the zoom micro adjustments on the newer canon cameras like my 5D mark iii. If it doesn't I suppose I could run the test twice, once at 24 mm and once at 70mm and enter the resulting micro adjustments myself. For any of you who have used this software does it take this into consideration for the newer cameras when using zooms and if not is my logic about running the test twice flawed in any way??

I use the black rapid and like it a lot. Just make sure that if you go that route that you either buy their tether kit or make your own just in case something were to happen to the tripod mount.

Any of you canon users using an expodisc with your 24-70 mark ii? I'm thinking I'd like to get one but they only come in 77mm and my lens is 82mm. Thought about using step down ring but I'm not sure if this would affect the reading or not.

Not everybody is a master DIY'er, and not everything that people find useful is a waste of money. I'm sorry you were not happy with yours (you did buy and try one, right? You obviously know then that what you got was a quality product that did not meet your needs.)

I apologize if you took offense to my post. I didn't mean for it to come across that way. What I meat to say was that it is very expensive for what it is. I wouldn't have purchased the black rapid strap if I wasn't satisfied with the quality of their products. Just didn't feel like a couple of carabiners and a strap was worth the $30 price tag.

While we may not feel the same way about the tether I do appreciate you taking the time to reply to my original post.

Use the tripod collar and invest in a BR tether kit.

The BR tether kit is a waste of money for what you get. Already using a tether that I put together out of parts I already had laying around the house.

Thanks

Just got my new 70-200 2.8 IS. When using carrying my 5D with the new lens is it best to attach the strap to the camera or the tripod collar? Or, is there any other strap that I should consider getting?

I am also interested in the 100 2.8 macro and the extender if you decide to part it out. But Philadd asked first.

I've decided to pass. They're all yours if he still has them.
