from what ive read i should have got the prime version
but others love it so could just be my copy
Hi, yes. Check out CanonRumors.com (under lenses)where there is a bunch of information. The current version (push-pull) will be replaced with a rotating zoom ring lens. Also comes a steep price increase of $2399 too. I love my current 100-400 and have had it for many years.

Guess I better start selling some pictures, so I can afford to buy the new one :-). I love my 100-400, but I think I would like the rotating lens instead of the push/pull. But I am Use to it now too.
Have to wait to see if they make an announcement at Photokina in September. Lots of rumors but Canon's NDA's kept much of this in secrecy.
Hi Cassy, I know me too. But then, I really don't have any issues with my current 100-400.

gawler, I always find it interesting that the 100-400 has such a bad rap. Yours is 12 mos. old, mine is probably twelve years old. I used to have a 500 f4, and if I pushed it, it feel completely apart. Used within it's limits it was an amazing lens. Same with my 100-400, used within it's limitations it will get amazing shots. 400mm is NOT very long, especially on a FF. A song bird at twenty feet is not gonna cut it. I'll just assume you know how to use the lens well. Maybe it needs calibrating, who knows.
I'm posting two shots that I've posted before. I'd like to see a couple of yours taken with the sigma and tammy that are sharper. Mine also has a TON of dirt in it.
The new Canon will obviously be sharper/better still. ;-)

I bought my 100 - 400 mm used several years ago but have had excellent results with it. A couple of examples are posted below...
Air Force 1 visiting Denver during the Presidential campaign of 2012; final approach at Buckley AFB east of downtown Denver.
The train is east of Hudson, CO , along I-76 rolling westward with a unit train of tank cars. I love my 100 - 400 mm lens!
