Great shots especially since they were hand held. Wish mine were half as good :)

Thanks. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Tonight I went out and tried to get some more shots and didn't get any. I have a lot to learn about my camera so it's all good practice anyway...

I thought the moon was round, not shaped like a loaf of bread. Live and learn.

:) It's not a full moon yet...

I'm still getting used to my new Sony NEX-7. I have a 55-210mm lens. I went out last evening and noticed the moon very pale in the evening sky. It was still pretty light out, but the moon was already halfway to mid-point for the first shot.

I then found the digital zoom on my camera and took the second shot. At that point it still wasn't totally dark and the moon was more than three quarters to mid-point in the sky. I know there's some aberration in the shots, but I'm still impressed by the definition on the moon's surface that I was able to get.

Hand held - and I was shaking a bit trying to keep the camera on the moon.

If you took this in RAW format then I would start there, and adjust the Camera settings to Camera Faithful, then the white balance to cloudy. Then using the the sliders bring the best out of the clouds to make them more angry and bring out the highlights in the shadow areas. I use PhotoshopElements 12 which I would then go to, or if you shot in jpeg you would start there, and using layers ,lasso the sky and work on that then lasso the green areas and work on that, then finish it with dodging and burning.

If you wish I can downloads it and have a go.

Thanks for the advice, Geoff. I have PhotoElements 12 and I actually did do a lot of work on the photo already. There were electrical lines running through it and the whole picture was rather gray because it was shot through a bus window! It's an old photo, too, shot with one of my older SONY cameras (Either the F717 or F828) so the pixel power wasn't terrific...

Wow, nice shot from a bus....just look at those clouds...impressive!

Those are the kind of moments that just happen. Luckily, my camera wasn't reflecting off the window and the shot was perfectly timed. Thank goodness for digital because I can't tell you how many bad drive by photos I have

Really good set eye707, The second one with the little Bothy about to be swallowed up by a storm is terrific and with a little PP work could IMHO be a classic picture.
(Just a note, The Houses of Parliament, the last 2, are in England, Sorry)

Geoff

Thanks, Geoff. The last two pictures do say sailing on the Thames, but you can't really see the title.

What can I do to fix the other one (the storm in Ireland)

here are a few of the wild life closer to Anchorage. the eagle set was captured at 5 fps. I have seen them pick things up many times but I have never seen them look down. I didn't see it this time but the camera caught it.
and a few other shots from a short drive

Incredible shots!

I took this photo from a bus tour we were on. It's probably my favorite because of the storm that was approaching...

I love taking photos, even when I'm in the car, on a boat, in the air ... here are some shots from Ireland and Wales

after reading about people asking what to bring on a trip to Alaska I was surprised how many members have come to Alaska.
I have lived in Alaska for many years, but I haven't done the tours that many visitors do. I was wondering if I am missing something. so show me where your tours have taken you on your trips. if you can please tell where the photo was taken incase I recognize it, or someone wants to go there on there next trip to Alaska.

We loved our Alaska cruise!

I went back to the lake to see how the nest of humming birds were doing. I can't believe how big they have gotten. There are two of them. One is larger then the other. They look like they are ready to fly. I'm surprised they haven't fallen out of their nest. I feel very lucky that I been able to take pictures of them. I hope you enjoy seeing them.

Wow, great shots ... how did you ever find the nest?

Thank you, all. They do provide a lot of entertainment throughout the year, although they cause a lot of trouble in the spring because they're constantly in my flower pots. And they're constantly waiting at the back door for something to eat!

Great shots! They are probably siblings. So much fun to watch them play.

Thanks, but I don't know if they're siblings ... I had to leave out the earlier x-rated photos ;-)

Sometimes things don't go quite the way we want them to ... do they?!?

These two were a little out of range and rolling around so fast, but they were so entertaining!
