I just received my Nikon D850, and in Live View in the upper right hand corner, DX is showing. All of my settings are FX, and I have a Full Frame Nikon 2.8 70-200mm attached. Any ideas on why DX s displayed? If I switch to video mode it switches to FX.

uscollegebuy.com is legit. The programs are quite complete. They are also the latest versions. Yes you must submit your school name, student ID card and I forget what else. Within 24-48 hours I received my ok to purchase. But be forewarned: They will only sell you a program once. If, for example, you buy a new computer and don't have your license code, you may not re-purchase. Buying Lightroom 3 and CS5 was a really good move for me.

If you are a student or instructor, you can purchase lightroom, CS5 Extended at a big discount at www.uscollegebuy.com. They have a bunch of Adobe software for a good price. While these are student versions, I feel that the programs are quite sufficient for my purposes.

I agree with Gerge H. Kit lenses are not as sharp. I mostly use a Nikon 55 MM-300 MM lens on my Nikon D7000. I also have a Nikon 18 MM-55 MM lens. I have found that I rarely use it. I always recommend to buy the lens separately.

CS5 does indeed have a sepia setting. Look under filters or adjustments.

Plenty of batteries, SD cards and, UV or Skylight filter, AND make sure you have avcard reader if your computer doesn't have one. And don't forget your chargers!!! You can take a class at any community college for almost nothing. This will help you to understand how to use your camera, and how to adjust for different conditions. Good luck!!! I would start with a basic B & W class.

Since you have some time before your trip, I'd Phil that puppy off automatic/program and get to know my camera. You have an extremely high quality camera and I think that it's a good time to start to get to know it's capabilities. It takes a while to learn a new camera. I would read my manual cover to cover, and make sure I brought it with me so I could change settings if need be. Conditions change. Now I understand if you feel a bit intimidated by the technology, but the more you experiment, the better you will become more quickly. For an important trip like this, make sure you have enough batteries and SD Cards. Also, I would bring lens cleaners etc.
The only way to really learn your cameranis trial and error. However, I would certainly recommend shooting in program if you aren't schooled on the particulars by the time you leave. Good luck and I can't wait to see the images. Practice as much as possible prior to leaving, but while there I wouldn't take too many chances if I didn't know my camera. You certainly don't want to lose any images because you were experimenting with the camera. So, learn what you can and. Have a great trip!!!
