The web in their feet is grey and at first glance, they look like they are not webbed! That's one thing I liked about this shot. You can see the web and the feet appear to be large for the size of the duck. This definitely one of my most favorite shots! Thanks for the kind words.

In December Topeka, Kansas had an unusual visitor. A male Mandarin Duck. Arguably one of the most beautiful ducks in the world. It's not native to North America. The native range of this species spans from southeastern Russia through eastern China and into North Korea, South Korea, and Japan. These ducks breed in China, Japan, and Siberia. They spend their winters in southern China and Japan. How this pretty boy came to Topeka is anyone's guess. He was really strutting his stuff and being photogenic. He was hanging out in a semi-dry creek in central Topeka. On New Year's Day, a storm came through and he has not been seen since, but the weather has not been conducive to bird watching. He was a local celebrity, and I am sure if he is still around, he will be located as the weather improves.

Cannot Display Image. Kimsnot Extreme Pro 95 MB/s. Looks like a SanDisk knock-off. That could be the problem. Think I'm screwed!

Windows 10. Lightroom Classic 10.3. Both latest versions. Files do not display when the card is inserted in D7500. Files do not display in On1, NX Studio, or Affinity Photo as well. Files look like the Exif data is missing.

We are in Yellowstone. After a day in Lamar Valley, I attempted to import the photos from the SD Card (64GB 95 MB) into Lightroom. Some of the initial files were uploaded correctly, but most of the shots would not preview and appear to be corrupted. What a bummer! I ran SD RescuePro and after several hours it only recovered the good files. Any suggestions? Am I screwed? What can cause this type of failure? Nikon D7500. I have included a screenshot from Windows Explorer.

It was a matter of cost to me. I wanted a D500 but could not afford it. I'm happy with the D7500 along with the Nikon 200-500 for wildlife. I've included a few shots taken in RMNP in August.

One of the reasons I included the location is so that anyone visiting RMNP can easily find it and enjoy an encounter with these amazing animals at 12,000 feet without having to make a strenous hike to their location.

Picas are one of the neatest animals. They rarely travel more than 100 feet from where they were born. They are usually located by looking for where they are storing their grass supply for winter. I really like your #2 pica action shot. Marmots are actually harder to find and photograph. Very good shots.

Thanks, he was sounding the alarm for others. I liked that one too.

Recently my wife and I vacationed in Estes Park, Colorado. We drove the famous Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park. At 12,090 feet the Tundra Communities Trailhead pull off offers close up encounters with the American Pica and Yellow-bellied Marmot. The fact that I could park my truck, walk 50 feet, and have an encounter with the American Pica at over 12,000 feet elevation was truly amazing and a bucket list item! The marmot was cool too.

Re: machinedoc (hummingbird) I think it is a great shot. I believe that a photograph can be excellent without being tack sharp, depending on the subject and other factors. Davidb.

Thanks, Davidb. Well said. We must never forget the artistic part of photography.

Just got back from Wolfe's Camera. Here are some test shots comparing the Sigma 150-600 to the Nikon 200-500. The first shot is the Nikon at 500mm. The second shot is the Sigma at 500mm. The third shot is the Sigma at 600mm. All shot at f10 1/200 sec 1600 ISO. All three shots cropped for ease of comparison. You can really see the difference when you compare the Nikon and Sigma at 500mm. We will compare them once the calibration is done. Then we can see if the calibration helped, or if the Nikon is that much better of a lens. Honestly, I was impressed with the Nikon. I could not tell any difference in weight of the two lenses.

I just called my local camera shop, Wolf"s Camera Topeka Ks, and talked to their tech rep. He said he had done lots of calibrations with cameras that had autofocus fine-tuning but had not done one with the Sigma Dock. Then he made me an offer. He would do mine for FREE just for the experience because they are a Sigma dealer and with more and more Sigma lenses supported by the dock, he could see the need to be able to do these type of calibrations. What a deal! Obviously, in the process he will learn what it takes time-wise and be able to determine what he would charge for that service. It's sure nice to have a full-service camera store locally. They are a dying breed. I will report back when he finishes.

Hand held. Shouldn't 1/1250 ss take care of that? That's why I upped the ISO to 800. I think I will do some comparison shots (tripod/hand held) to see if that's the problem or part of the problem.. Good point.

The dock tunes the LENS, and has nothing to do with the camera.

Sigma has lots of tutorials:

Yes, but they are not very good at explaining how to determine the best focus settings at each distance in with the camera. I was hoping that there was a definitive youtube video to guide one through the process.

Which AF setting are you using, single or multiple point? Think you should try single point AF before you start any type calibration changes.

I have tried single point, but it's almost impossible to get and hold focus when shooting BIF.
