I have been playing with my new one today, about 3 weeks old & the panoramic feature is amazing, great fun! After my D600 it is taking a little bit to get used to, such as moving different wheels for differents things but have BBF so I am really enjoying it. Not good for my bird shots but great for happy snaps of grandsons & landscapes & as I said super fun for panoramic landscapes. A really nice little camera!

I am taking pictures with a6000, this camera is amazing...

I have also just bought one, I have found it does not really like the ISO above 800 & even that high there is some noise. It took me a little while to work out the focus but I am pretty OK with that now, I have only had it a week & my normal camera is a Nikon 600 with a long lens for wildlife & birds but with arthritis in my wrists & hands I got this lovely little light camera for happy snaps of grandkids etc. It came with 2 kit lenses & in time I would like to get a nice wide angle lens for concerts & things but they are not cheap but I will see how things go but so far I am pretty happy with it. The reviews are excellent so probably just a learning curve with a new camera, cannot do the wifi thing with it yet but will have another go at that when this busy holiday season is over. Climbing Australia,s biggest mountain on Sunday so hope to use it then, much easier to carry on the climb, not that it is too far after we get off the chair lift but still about 4 miles or so to walk but it is all on paths so not too steep either!

I subscribe & use LR 98% of the time but only because I have yet to learn PS but am hoping to do so. What is the best & easiest way to learn how to use PS, I am competent at LR but Ps remains a mystery!

Do you mean naked as with no clothes or naked because you have no camera & feel naked without one?.?

I am in Australia & I bought a lens from Valuebasket, also saved $400. They said in stock & 10 days, well 10 weeks & many many emails I finally received my lens of which I paid $1800 instead of $2300. I became very nervous & thought I had done my money so felt it was not worth the angst in the long run. I would never deal with them again but it is a beautiful lens & was brand new.

With LR mobile the photos are transferred as nefs or whatever raw photos your camera produces, they do not have to be saved just placed in a collection. As I said you can do some editing which is also transferred back to the photo in LR . You do have to be on the cloud subscription to use this program but it is a really great way & easy way to show your photos just taking your iPad. The iPad can see your raw files, I can look at my pic, it gives me the usual ex if data & says is is 20140906 3064 nef which is what it would be called in LR.

I used to use Aperture, which has similarities to iphoto and my recollection is that you can choose to let Aperture (or iphoto?) manage the files (within the aperture/iphoto library or by reference to a chosen file location.. The edits thereafter are non-destructive. I don't think this helps your original issue which was to get your LR photos on to an ipad. I'm trying to do that also and have resorted to iphoto as well. In my case I am exporting the images from LR to a convenient location and then importing them into iPhoto, all on my macbook pro. My ipad then picks up the iphoto link and I can view them on my ipad. Clearly the files are duplicated but I can't see any way round this. I would be delighted if some hog can point us in the direction of a better solution. I shall watch this post with interest.

I use a program that comes with LR called LR mobile, you place the pics you want into a collection in LR & then ask them to sync to the iPad, they just move over wirelessly & you can even do a bit more editing in the iPad. It is a great way to show off your photos.

I think you will find that to use mobile LR for iPad the photos need to first go onto your computer, be placed in collections in LR then they will sync with your iPad. You can do some PP on the iPad but it is pretty basic. I just use it as a way to show my photos off to other people. Please correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure this is how it works!

I have the new version & find it is amazing, it is sharp, versatile but is heavy & expensive but I have never regretted buying it. I can carry it & use it hand holding for long periods & I am an older lady but have been very happy with my photos of wildlife & birds. Still not terribly good at BIF but I think that is more of a learning curve for me!

Just wondering, how close to the stage are you standing? Is there any reason you can't just move back?

No that always seems to be the problem, we are not on a stage just in a hall so I can never seem to move further back & they always spread out a fair bit. With the kids at school, yes as stage but also spread at the sides & terrible lighting!
I use an iMac, is there a panoramic program that is good with them, ICE seems to be a Microsoft system.
And yes you can tune recorders, a beautiful instrument if they are not given to children & they use cheap plastic ones, the beautiful wooden ones sound great but sorry off subject!!

I have a D7100 and my ultra-wide is a 10-24 which on your camera would be about a 15-36mm. It is great for landscapes, indoor real estate shots and things like that, not great for portraits, and people shots. Although, it is good for group shots in small rooms.

I would rent a lens I was considering or purchase it from B&H, Adorama, or somewhere that had a good return policy so that I could try it first.

Problem is I live in Canberra, Australia & the only place I have found to rent here, one has to rent for 6 months & it is pretty expensive so not really an option for me. Not the price as the length of time & paying a monthly fee for something that you do not like for 6 months. I have a friend who has rented a Nikkor 300 f4 for $100 a month which she will probably buy & at least the $600 is taken off the price. I do not know of anywhere here you can rent short term like you can in USA. I think the lens I have 24-80 is a great lens & I just need to learn out to stitch together. I have the new Tamron 600 on order so I will enjoy that for a while before I decide what to do about my wide angle shots. I must admit wildlife & birds are my first love but I get asked to take these concerts so like to do a good job if I can!

I agree with what rpavich said, and also keep in mind that ultra wide angle shots introduce distortion which is horrible to people, think of a house of mirrors. I would say 24mm is the widest you want to use for people, and maybe not even that, 30-35mm might be better. Take a series and stitch them as others have suggested.

Thank you so much for your help, I already have a tripod & I do use it on these occasions but I have never tried to stitch my photos together so it looks like another learning curve for me.
By the way our recorder orchestra has up to 8 different sized recorders from the very deep 5 feet high contra bass, to the tiny
8 inch piccalo, the music we make is beautiful!
It sounds like a much cheaper option for me as well, Thank you all!

I use a nikon d600 & have a 24-85 lens which is beautiful but I like to take pics at grandsons school concerts & also I play in a recorder orchestra where there is maybe 50 people always strung out with terrible lighting. I cannot get anywhere near all of the people in & I have looked at a wider nikon lens & it is over $2000! My question is could I get a mirroless camera or one of the newer smaller compacts with maybe a panoramic feature in camera that would give me a better chance of getting a better pic?

I must admit I am very keen to try the new Tamron but I reckon it will be ages before we see the Nikon version in Australia. I have heard it is very difficult to get a Canon one as well. Some say it will be soft at 600 but I am keen to try, especially at that price!

I have this lens & find it excellent especially for birds, not so good BIF yet but that is my inexperience . I use it with a D600 but I tried a 1.4 TC & it did not work at all, no AF & f 8 was the best I could get so no, beautiful lens but no TC.
