Aloha all y'all...
I agree with wilikioti and bill de...many use "auto" without attempting to understand the "fundamental physics" and "laws of light" taking place...
* * *
I normally set the shutter mode to 500 or so to produce images like the ones attached and let the camera decide on the ISO and aperture... I set one or two of the "trilogy" and let the camera decide the other(s)... easy peasy.
I select what is most important to my design and let the little picture-taking-designed-computer chip in the camera determine the other settings... that's one of the reason why I bought the thing in the first place, to HELP me capture better images, yes? AND why it's so danged expensive... (wink)
* * *
It's your camera... use it how YOU want it to work, not by some so-called YouTube expert with 100 or even 100,000 subscribers... use it how YOU want it to capture the images YOU want... once you understand how the trilogy works... aperture (amount of light - function of lense - f-stop); exposure (duration of light - function of camera - shutter speed); and ISO (sensitivity to light - function of sensor - ability to capture data = 1 MB ~ 24 MB files)...
* * *
I like images like those attached below (at times)... how'd I do? (grin)

Aloha all y'all...
upon further review... from a southerner with very little ski experience (with either type)...
it appears Cannon is a ski resort... LOL
* * *
I wondered what caused those wide swaths through the mountainside... until I discovered the ski lifts...
[ silly me ]
* * *
Yes, it is a great shot... and a superb panorama...
I keep coming back to look it over one more time... the colors really POP!
* * *
Congratulations again...

Aloha all y'all...
it is an amazingly wonderful first attempt... I am very impressed.
* * *
IF I may, which I will now anyhow... (grin)
I take it a step further... I leave the raggity edges, call it a "fractured foto," and leave it at that... (wink)
* * *
I submit an example below...
* * *
To be honest, I cheat... (IF I'm honest about it, is it still cheating? LOL)
I use Affinity Photo... which has a panorama function that permits me to select the images (I've used up to 18-20 individual images at times) and using their "crop, rotate, and scale" selection for stitching them together.
I get images like this one below, from selection of the images to a single image ready for editing and finishing in less than a minute... seconds really...
* * *
Also, IF you use a telephoto lense, as I did here... the quality of the image remains good through several levels of magnification... much better than most panorama images... give it a shot with this one and zoom in on it... (wink)
* * *
Affinity has a free-trial... give it a go, just for kicks ... it'll make a believer out of you...

Aloha all y'all...
here we are after all these years... (wink)
* * *
We're no closer to an Affinity/Serif organizer tool than when this discussion originally began... (sigh)
* * *
The final technique I use is the easiest and simplest to invoke... the folder system in the OS.
It permits any number of layers to the folder system ... it permits a good long naming convention with my own ability to create descriptive filenames ... and it permits me to move any number of files to any other folder in a minimum number of cut and paste operations.
* * *
I initially use two folders: one from each card of my Canon 7DMk2 ... 𝗖𝗥𝟮 and 𝐉𝐏𝐆.
then create two more: 𝐚𝐟𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 for the edited Affinity files, and 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲𝟒𝐳𝐞𝐧 for the exported jpg files to upload into my zenfolio cloud ( 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰.𝐧𝐞𝐭 )... then create more specific folders as the need arises, changing only the .jpg and .afphoto format ID portion of each copy to keep the names identical in both folders.
* * *
I've never really needed to send any image data (exposure duration, shutter speed, ISO setting, or flash info) with any of my images, but on those few occasions when I do, I just add them to the description/caption and leave it at that.
* * *
Does anyone keep their image data for any REAL purpose, or is it just "nice to know" sort of information to share with others?

A year later...
Did you get any solution to your frustrations?
What did you want to do with LR?
Take a look at Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher... I have all three packages and will begin to use them all more actively soon... completely owning them for just a bit more than a one year subscription to Adobe products... each program is simply $50 to own them outright.
Their functionality is much easier to own and operate than Adobe's over-priced stuff...
I was a daily user of Adobe PS, and have moved on without looking back.

Look here for a comparison...

and here for a beginners introduction...

I gave up on 13 years of Adobe P[o]S for Affinity Photo earlier this year...
Yes, they have a free trial period... before you buy... [$50]

They also have a Designer version [$50] for creators and a Publisher (beta) to replace InDesign [free to download - final pricing unknown by me at this time]...

Enjoy. . .

Here is a short 11-minute video doing what you want in a much, much, MUCH quicker method using a PS alternative program... ($50) ...
IF your time to complete a mask in PS is costing you more than that... it might very well solve your problem with much less aggravation...
actually NONE at all. . . (enjoy) ... available in both PC and Apple ... I run it on both...

I just gave up Adobe products earlier this year for this trio out of the UK...
$50 each for Photo and Designer - no subscription... download, install, and viola!
They also have a Publisher (InDesign replacement) in beta if you'd like to download it for free and see how you like it...
I think many of you will like it... both PC and Apple flavors...
I use Canon RAW and haven't had a glitch since installation.

Go look for yourself...
There are also 16 introductory videos on vimeo IF you'd like to see it running before you commit a single dime on it...
Use the tutorial link from the link above... it'll take you right there... OR maybe it runs at the site...
My pictures are fine, it's my memory that's fuzzy... (grin)

I'm telling you... it is a steal for $50...

Two assists for leveling...
Canon has an electronic level in one of it's menu items...
but, and what a big BUTT it is, you can use it when framing the shot... go for tripod mounting, but not som much for active shooting...
NOT sure anyone here would want to upgrade JUST for a bubble level function... well, maybe IF you're a carpenter who takes lots of pictures at work... (wink)
* * *
I downloaded a bubble level app on my phone. . . (grin)
It also has a traditional "center the bubble" type of level as well as the "circle and bubble" one...
Here again, not so practical for active shooting, but good for setting up a tripod...
AND a whole lot better than trying to squeeze a three-foot carpenter's level in the camera bag... (LOL)

I see that same thing myself... I once asked a photographer, who fancied himself better than he was, did he ever intend to straighten a tilted shot including some brick wall imagery...
He chided me for bringing it up and blamed it on focal aberration - of course, it's never his fault... (wink) and then promptly ridiculed my lack of knowledge of such things and blocked me with a flourish to others... (sigh)
* * *
In any case, I never publish anything with large vertical or horizontal edges without "straightening" the most significant vertical or horizontal edge right from the start...
I also intentionally capture more than I need in the original image - I am a huge believer in cropping and straightening in post production, so as not to miss the shot, because I'm trying to get it level or plumb - so I DO have room to alter the image.
* * *
IF I do want to make it a bit of an artistic creation - I shoot for huge "off the vertical" angles right from the start and fine tune them in post...
* * *
I also "almost always" (only when told I can't) have a monopod attached for just that reason... I am quite frequently surprised at the very minor adjustments I need to make to get things absolutely plumb or level.
Even if I don't extend any sections of the monopod, it still gives me the feel of a "plumb bob" ... and when I shoot at 90 degrees, it gives me more of a feel for the horizontal with the stub of the monopod sticking out sideways...
* * *
In the final analysis, I think horizontal and vertical are "acquired skills" in photography... much like "hue". . . (grin)
Let's not go there... (wink)
* * *
Yes, it does bug me... you're not the only one... (grin)

In the long run, it makes for intriguing discussions and viewpoints, but (and what a BIG butt it is (wink) ) otherwise, it doesn't really matter on the final image created...

IF the objective is an emotionally moving image that works... does it matter...? ... much like getting from home to work, does it really matter if one drives a stick or an automatic...? drives one's own car or takes a bus...? the final objective is the primary factor in photography ... not so much the means of getting to the end.

Now, are there techniques for producing a certain image that might work better under certain circumstances than others... certainly... is a carpenter who can use every tool in his box effectively better able to get better paying jobs and raving referrals... most certainly...

Regardless of the camera in one's hands, it just stands to reason that the more familiar one is with every function at his/her disposal, the better s/he will be at producing the image s/he intends .. not just simply the one s/he likes the best... as to announce that every image captured is a complete surprise... (grin)
