This photo was the end result of my attempt to isolate some orchids, while obscuring background distractions.

Nifty 50 and isolated subject

On my way to Florence and Rome this week, anyone have a favorite spot to take a picture, I need help with my composition! Thanks.

One site you might consider in Rome is the Baths of Caracalla, a little out of the way, but a great photo opportunity. Another site, unexplored, by tourists, is the Ardentine Caves, on the Appian Way. Here are the graves of hostages shot by the Germans as retribution for a partisan bombing of an SS police unit. The site took my breath away. Please don't miss the opportunity to shoot the major squares along with all the beautiful street life of the 2 cities.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I have researched all of the recommended cameras, as much as i was able to on line. The Sony RX100 and 100s are very attractive, but there is the lack of a view finder and ironically the very small size. The Fujifilm x20 remains a strong possibility as much for its aesthetics as for its ergonomics and of course its viewfinder. I understand that it can also do multiple exposures. I believe that the Sony has better IQ but not that much better given my other reservations. I will be taking a my small Canon DSLR with a couple of wide angle lenses and will probably shoot specific locations with that camera. I wanted the compact as a walk around. I have a Canon G12 which has been a worthy companion on past trips, but it is getting a little long in the tooth as far as its capabilities, no panoramic, limited view finder and no multiple exposures. If any of you has had direct experience with the fuji x20, I'd like to hear from you.

I'm having difficulty deciding between a Fujifilm X20 and a Canon G16 to use as an alternative to my DSLR cameras for street and architecture photos while visiting Paris this Fall. Both cameras have useful advanced features and are light enough so that they are not a burden when wandering about the city. I would like suggestions from those who are familiar with these cameras.
