A couple of cropped pics with my new toy. Constructive criticism always welcome.

Thank-You for the suggestions. I will give them all a try and see what works the best for me. Now.....if I can figure out WHY I can't upload pictures to the forum, I'll be good to go.

Would you please elaborate on the deficiencies in your photos so that answers might be tailored to your difficulties?
Sure, the camera has a very difficult time, focusing on a moving object. I did have it in "sport" mode, which seemed to help a little. I didn't try the 3 D mode, but will next time, for sure. I have tried to post some of the pictures from my wife's laptop, but it keeps giving me an error......and won't allow the upload.

I recently purchased a Nikon D 100 camera and a couple if lenses. I've attempted a few birds in flight photos, but am not pleased with the results. I'm using a Nikon 18 - 300 lens. I'm wanting to make a couple of custom settings, specifically for BIF. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Have you considered a factory refurbished camera and lenses ??? I can only speak for Adorama, but I recently bought a refurbished D7 100, 2 used lenses and an SB600 external flash. I also purchased a new 35 mm 1.8 lens, I saved more than enough money to buy the new lens, an extra battery and two 32 gig cards as well as a Lowe pro backpack to carry it all in. To say I am pleased, would be a vast understatement. It's your money......I'm just sayin'

Great pictures !!! These little falcons are a very "flighty" subject to get good photos of. We have several of these that hang out down by the Ohio river. They are indeed, one of the most beautiful raptors native to the U.S. If you don't mind me asking, what was your setup ?

Right place, at the right time. Isn't that 75% of the end result, most of the time ??? Excellent picture !!!

If you purchase a factory refurbished camera, will I have to go and download the factory software updates for the camera ??? If so, where exactly do I find them and how do I go about getting them to the camera ??? Are they really necessary ???
Thank-You......in advance

All of the lenses except the 35 mm 1.8 are used lenses but they come with their original box, hood and pouch. Some people rarely ever put a hood on a lens, I'm one of those that rarely ever take the hood off.

The Sony 7R was considered, but it alone put me near my budget ceiling without any lenses.
Reinaldokool, that was a typo on my part. It was supposed to say SB-600......my bad.
Thanks again, everyone for the confirmation of my choices and the well wishes. I try to do my homework before making decisions but I am only human. I do need to look into a decent camera bag or backpack for all these new goodies. I have a tripod, although it's not a quality one, I have found it to have served my purpose, thus far. Somewhere in my future, I'm sure I'll pick up a longer range lens and will likely upgrade my tripod.....then. Until then, I'm gonna enjoy exploring these lenses.

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone. Japakomom, I've been waiting for almost two years.....this last little bit of time is the light shining in the end of the tunnel. Meanwhile, I'll just watch a few more videos on YouTube.
