Definitely invest in a really good lens. The body can only be as good as the person using it. It's only a tool- a means to the end. But a superior lens makes for some really good shots! Unless of course if there is a body that offers you more opportunity than you have now. Otherwise it's the glass you invest in. Filters can be fun too.

Absolutely you can take photos in the fog! Try different methods with aperture, timing, distance, etc. I got some incredible shots when heavy fog rolled in over our harbor. In fact, I put a slide show together with music and posted it to YouTube "Fog over Northport". Take a look. The ethereal quality lends itself to some really interesting photos. Fog lifts as the morning sun burns it off. If you can possibly stay there until after 10am, you can then take clearer shots. Have a great time! I'm jealous .... But .... I see a road trip in my future! I'm on Long Island. Great info on a destination.
