So you are advocating that a photographer not use the focus points? Seems a waste of a good tool to me. The focus points allow you to choose where the focus originates from as well as what tone you want to set the metering on. It's not complicated at all, just good use of all of the tools given to us in the camera. In digital photography when shooting RAW it's especially important to expose for the highlights. When shooting in JPEG one would need to expose on the brights, but keeping the exposure point more at the end of the midtone levels as there is not as much leeway in JPG. Why not use all the tools we have to get the photo we want without having to rely strongly on post processing: makes sense to me.
So you are advocating that a photographer not use ... (show quote)

Ok thanks for your input. Ill give it a try and get back to you..

How is that working for you , on BIF as there changing position ever wing flap , I use cf on every thing , but I also use BBF, on everything
It's the best for both worlds .if it's sitting on a stump not flying I just lift my thumb and take as many in focus snaps as I want, if it's flying I
Just hold my thumb down and take as many snaps or spray and pray as I want . Try that by locking your exposer every shot , it never worked for me , ??

I don't take BIF pics.. Poster was looking for ideas and I gave him one. Your set up sounds like it works and that's great. I glad you had some input on the subject.

I set my exposure lock to hold when I half press shutter. Works well for me. Hope this helps.

Check your manual.
(I like them separate.)

This is how I have my D750 set up.

I have a D750 setup with BBF. If I press back button to focus you can hear VR activate. If I half press shutter button VR will activate without focus activation. If I want to use continuous focus I will hold back button and VR will stay active as long a button is held. If I press BBF and release to hold focus I will also keep shutter button half pressed to keep VR active. This is how VR works on my 750. You can test this on your camera by listening for the VR motor turning on and off.

I shoot raw only. I was shooting both for a while but found I would always process and use the raw file. Now I just make a copy in a different format when needed.

Ok. I had to start over. I uninstalled LR5 and all the catalogs that were created for LR5. I didn't do any changes LR4. I left it on my computer when I did the upgrade. The mistake I made was I imported all my photos from the hard drive directly to LR5 and it created a new catalog so all my previous edits were not there. After I installed LR5 for the 3rd time, I went into file, chose import from another catalog,I found the LR4 folder and used that. All my pics transfered over with my previous edits as I had wanted from the start.
I don,t know if this was the best way to get all info from LR4 to LR5 but so far it looks good. I want to thank you all for your help. Without it I would have not figured it out this fast. I have learned a lot from this forum and hope I can help in the future. :)

Thanks for all your help. I uninstalled LR5. That didn't work. When I answerd all the update questions I didn't see anything different than the first time. All my pics are there but previous changes are not. I am a amature photographer and its not a huge issue, but pros who have hundreds pics who want to reprint some duplicates I could see this as a problem.

Hello all, I have a question.I upgraded to lightroom 5 and all my photos that I edited in version 4.4 transfered over without my previous edits applied. Has anyone had this happen? I have probably done something wrong but can't find a solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
