I saw one for the first time, three years ago when we had a few inches of snow on the ground. Haven't seen one since until we had snow again this year. Both times they came to the nut feeder. I captured it flying away from the feeder and had no idea what I would see until I downloaded to computer ....... then saw the bright yellow under its wings.

Mark - I don't have to look at your video! I got my grip about two weeks ago and did not realize I had to order the EN-EL18 adapter. My other camera is the D5 so I had extra batteries. When the adapter came in, it was a new ball game. The camera responds quicker and I was able to nail birds leaving my feeder. I'm sure some of that was me, but with the grip and battery, I could get two exposures of the bird where I was lucky to get one before. By comparison, I can get 3 with my D5. I have the 850 mounted on a tripod with a 600mm f4 mounted - just in case someone is thinking they could get 10 with a 50mm!! I would and have recommended that addition to anyone shooting wildlife.

I don't usually like grunge shots but I really like this one. Her elbow was distracting at first until I realized her arm was wrapped around a valve handle. Her expression was perfect then - observing the effect after turning the valve! The lighting and processing all work together.

I use XQD G series in my camera in one slot and an S series in the other. I first bought a Lexar card with their reader. It couldn't read my Sony cards. I decided to try my Sony readers and although it was a few years old, it could read anything I put in it, including the new G series and the only Lexar card I will ever buy!

Got engaged in the restaurant in the Morristown Inn in 1969! Don't know if it is still there.

I wanted to pass on the info of the pass cost, but saw others did.
The serenity of this picture and your story got to me again!

I am sorry for your loss. I too, lost my wife last September and have been advising others to photograph their loved ones.

The funeral home asked me to give them 50 pictures for a slide show to be shown at the gathering after her funeral. I had no problem giving them 155. At Christmas time, they held a remembrance service and showed a slide show including those that passed away in the previous 12 months. During that show, it became quite clear that not many people had good photos of their spouse. Most were out of focus selfies with terrible backgrounds. After seeing those pictures I started my crusade to have more people start shooting! I attended a charity auction and bought a "fun" package for my son and his family which included a 4 hour session with a local photographer. Not one member of his family has ever enjoyed having their picture taken. They still haven't scheduled the session!

I have an override non-deductible policy that covers all loss, accidental damage or theft, with State Farm. Prior to my wife's passing, her better jewelry as well as my camera equipment was covered. When my tripod failed and my D4 with a 300 mm 2.8 mounted to it, crashed to the blacktop, 100% repair costs covered. I never shopped the cost, but have been told the most affordable coverage is through your insurance company.

[quote=DirtFarmer]I have the 28-300 and like it. I use it a lot. It's really convenient to have an all-purpose lens that covers that wide a range.

DirtFarmer said it all and I can't add any more to his review. Last month we travelled to Tucson where we met up with entire family. For that trip I added the Nikon 16 mm fisheye, and between those two lenses had everything covered what I wanted. When flying, that will be my travel combo in the future.

He is much brighter than the one we used to see around here. The picture is one walking in my driveway.

Thank you all for comments. I have been busy working on woodworking project and have not been on this sight for a while.
When I posted the pictures, I was hoping for a quick answer to eliminate time spent on computer changing the composition of multiple exposures of same picture. Based on comments, and my like for both, I guess I have to continue to do so. Everyone also made it clear that the composition and exposure together are important.
