You state that you downloaded the first half of the photos. Did you then delete from the card the ones you have downloaded? I suggest that you do just to get them out of the way. Then you should be left with just the 'mystery' photos on the card. In Properties how much used space is shown? Is it enough to account for all the missing photos or is it far less, suggesting that the photos don't even exist? I suggest that at that point you right click and select 'Copy'. Save the copy to your desktop or whatever location you choose. Better yet, save two copies. One before you delete any downloaded photos and one after. Now that you have a secure copy of whatever is on the card I suggest you use a program such as Recuva to see if it can get those photos off the card. It will also bring off any photos you may have deleted since you last formatted the card, unless they have been overwritten in the meantime.
It's possible that a glitch in your camera caused the photos to be mis-labeled, making them unreadable. Check in Properties for and see if the file suffice is the same for both groups. It would probably be .JPG. I would also shoot some photos on another card to see if the problem still exists.
If Recuva or Sandisk can't help you I would also recommend calling Sony, since it could be a camera issue.

I downloaded into 2 separate folders on my pc.. 1 folder with all of the good images and one folder with the invalids.
I left the sd card alone (just in case)

now...
I deleted 5 of the invalid images off the sd card. then I ran recuva on the sd card..it said recovered--excellent.. i put them in a folder , clicked to open and it said..Invalid image !!! this is crazy. in the properties it says the data is there, the extension is correct (.jpg).

I have never had any issues with sd cards in the past or my canon writing a valid picture.. this is what I get for trying an "all in one" camera.

the sd card was bought from a reputable store.

I am glad I changed sd cards for the next day.. and the next day with the other sd card everything is there this is just so strange.

SanDisk phone (888)527-1441 I just looked it up for you.

I have that, thanks..I am going to call them today.

The camera is a Sony RX10 m4.. new(er) camera all updated software. Yes it supports large memory cards. I put a large one in in case I videoed (I didn't video).

I wish it was 1 photo...198 photos in the hit..but only one afternoon, I sure lot of the pictures would have been deleted by me in the end.. and luckily I was intermittently taking one on my phone. The camera on my Google Pixel 3xl is terrific. I almost didn't bother with a camera on vacation, but I love using a camera.

they don't display. it's blank. the camera didn't give me an error at any time and I don't have the camera set to show the pic right after it is taken. It is a Sony RX IV. I was mad at myself for not taking my Canon 70D..but it seems that it has to be a memory card issue. the camera always focused and shutter released. this is so dang crazy.

I have gone through a lot of on-line searched regarding this problem.

I just got home from vacation. I had a 128gb SD sandisk card. when I downloaded the photos the 1st half are fine. the second half say "no valid image" the file number and 123.jpg is there..when i look at properties there is data. I tried opening them in Windows Photos, in Adobe, tried uploading to web..nothing.
adobe says "could not complete your request because a JPEG marker length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete). say what???

any ideas? suggestions?

I hope they do a better repair on yours than they did on mine.
I am beyond ticked at Canon.
I have a 70D it was having a focusing problem and I wanted it cleaned... I sent it Jan 3rd. I did the pre-estimate for cleaning for 49.+ shipping and footnoted the focusing problems.
They sent an email that the additional service would be 209.
I called and spoke to service to find out what was going on with the camera and they said the focusing mechanism was adjusted incorrectly (this camera has never been great like my 60D) I sucked it up and paid the additional..
It came back today..
NOT cleaned and with more dust on the mirror and STILL not focusing correctly!
I am SOOOOO aggravated.

Atypically you need to give yourself at least 1 hour and 30 minutes. I tell the brides that when shooting the formals people stand around and act like their at a bar waiting for the big game to come on the TV. It is hard to coordinate them and they are all over the place. At 1:30 minutes you have to be coordinated. Right after the ceremony have someone dedicated to get the group shots together, like the Mom, Brides maid, pushie aunt. The pushie aunt is good as you give her something to do to get her out of your hair. Have a printed list, with names and give it to her. It is a given that people will ask you to look at the shots, tell you they do not like them and reshoot. Take multiples. I like them to say 'nice' or 'cookies' in replacement for cheese. Another thing I like to do is tell them to close their eyes. (the ones that blink) when I count, 1, 2, 3. open up on 2 and look at me. I like to leave the B&G for last, but if you run out of time, that session FAILS. Good Luck. I think the formals are the most stressing part of the wedding. Sort of like Noah and the Ark without Gods help.

this is GREAT! Love the pushy aunt suggestion! I know just the person to do this! I will give her the list with picture next to each name so the few she won't know (from the grooms side) she will have a reference for!
and the blinking..UGH!

I am not the wedding photographer for our daughters wedding. I am only doing the "getting ready" shots at home. I want to enjoy the festivities and all the family being here to celebrate.
My daughter has a good eye looked through on-line galleries.
she picked 5 photographers, emailed them to see if her date was free-- she interviewed the 3 that were free--one was deleted immediately because he was cocky. She decided on a woman whose husband is her second shooter. We met with them and "Click" they are both creative with fun personalities.
We want to be relaxed about the day and not schedule too tight of a time frame for anything.
The picture will be after the ceremony..the groom will not see the bride prior to her coming down the isle.
She wants a limited amount of formals in the church. after that the wedding party is going to a destination (not too far away) for photos (guests will not be told where--no interference for the photographer) I will go with them at my daughters request (she is very particular about detail --dress- stray hairs that type of thing) plus as someone suggested to have someone there to keep them on track and light--that is me. I have been taking pictures of this group of "kids" for years so they are easy and relaxed for me. I know how to get them to loosen up.
I am hoping fr a fun day with a lot of laughs and terrific pictures to look at later :)

Our daughter is getting married this summer.
we are kicking around the time frame.
How long should we allow after the ceremony (in the church) for formals?
1- Bride & groom
2- Bride, groom and wedding party
3- Bride, groom and grooms immediate family (total of 7)
4- Bride, groom and grooms immediate family + grands (11)
5- Bride, groom and brides immediate family (6)

extended family shots will be at the reception venue.

4 batteries? 8 batteries? Are just talking about for the flash (my speedlite takes AA)it's extra magazine clip holds 8aa.
We have been to quite a few wedding the last couple of years and I always get a call a couple of days before.."please bring your camera".
I think I get that request because I NEVER EVER get in the photographers way or try to grab the same shot they are getting.
I think there are people out there that are known for being a nuisance with their cameras and it is nicer to ask them to leave their camera at home rather than having to ask them to cease and desist at the event.

Truthfully.. if you are contracted and it pays well just go with the flow. In the end it is THEIR day NOT yours. You will and have photographed many wedding they will only have 1 (let's hope). It really doesn't matter how many people even click over your shoulder YOU as the main photographer move the wedding party through a variety of poses and in reality none of the other people clicking will get your exact pose and angle. In the end when you show the bride the photos you have taken she will buy from you because yours should be the best--- if someone else had better than you then you failed.
I think the only thing the professional photo seller looses out on is all the extra copies for aunt jane and uncle jon- BUT now-a-days with at home printers and scanners they will only buy one copy and scan and print for the aunts and uncles anyway.
Last year I went to 2 family weddings at my nephews I took tons of pictures. I left the family poses to the photographer they had hired didn't bother over his shoulder..not my thing.. He did a fab job.. BUT he didn't get the fun that I did..i captured the tears in grandpa's eyes and the flower girl lifting her dress.. the bride and groom having a quick chat and kiss the bride snuggling the flower girl.
The other wedding--my hubby's nephew I didn't take as many but I still captured a bunch that the photographer didn't.
How about this angle.. when you see someone with a "high end" camera give them some pointers and some tips to take some of the pics that you won't have time for..you'll make a friend and they will more than likely stay out of your way.

The pictures just look like typical snapshots. Not paid professional quality.
Lately almost anyone that buys a d-slr calls them-self a professional.
I take decent pictures BUT I would want a real professional photographer for my child's wedding.

We have 2 long hair cats (both rescued kitties)
neither have problems with hairballs, their diet addresses that.
No we do not bathe the cats, they are combed daily--at their request--belly up at my feet means they need/want brushed.

I know this is a photo blog--that still doesn't mean miss treatment of animals is acceptable.

Not nice at all and really just plain MEAN. Poor cat.
Why do people do such mean things to animals.
How would you like it if a couple of huge bears held you down and shaved your entire body (and I mean bears not humans). Do think you would feel scared and violated?
The photos no good either.

Alarmed from all your responses, I called Digital Depot directly. Apparently this is a lens that is released in Japan and will be available in the US in June. It is the 18-135mm IS Steel. On their website they are selling it for 1299.00 I paid 999.00. They would have sold me the 24-105L for 999.00. Now that I've got all the details straight, what do you think? PS -- I can return within 30 days.

Good luck-- I hope it all turns out-- they can't ruin your credit over a canceled order--fools.
I bought my 24-105 L from Canon. I am a bit tired of online camera stores. I had never had any problems with B&H
