So our cat got a haircut...
She is a long-haired cat. A Siberian breed of some kind that's naturally able to tolerate temperatures as low as -4 Fahrenheit/-20 Celsius.
Our vet told us that we should cut our cat's hair for the summer to make it easier for her to deal with the heat. So we did.
This is what she looked like before:
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-25745-1.htmlWe invited a pet groomer to give her the lion haircut, and my wife was helping her while I was taking pictures.
This is how it progressed.
Using her favorite toy to distract her.
Half way there.
Getting annoyed right in the middle of the process and walking away.
Still annoyed with these humans.
Almost done, getting really angry with us.
I hate you people.
Well your groomer sure did a good job on that lion cut. Love this series. I use to have to do that for one of my cats that passed away quite a few years ago. These brought back some fond memories.
A thick coat on an animal often has multiple uses...keep warm in the cold and also to insulate from the sun. Ever notice that people living in hot humid desert type environments wear ...turbans ,long flowing robes and cover their faces ?
Not nice at all and really just plain MEAN. Poor cat.
Why do people do such mean things to animals.
How would you like it if a couple of huge bears held you down and shaved your entire body (and I mean bears not humans). Do think you would feel scared and violated?
The photos no good either.

Tomorrow give her a bath.
Next day give her a pill.
She will be ever so grateful.

Restraint - - Breathe - - now blow it out - - OK
She's a CAT. An INDOOR CAT. Her life is 1000x better than her brothers and sisters in the wild.
I have 3 kitties - - love 'em all. I hate to hear 'em hawking up furballs come Spring / Summer - even though I furminate them weekly. And they are not NEARLY as furry as KG's kitty.
If you have a cat - - do you ever give it a bath ???
Also - whether YOU like it or not - this is a Veterinarian recommended process.
So do chill out and remember - - this is a PHOTO blog - -
.
And OBTW - KG - - I thought the series was a great intro to Kitties rights of Spring.
We have 2 long hair cats (both rescued kitties)
neither have problems with hairballs, their diet addresses that.
No we do not bathe the cats, they are combed daily--at their request--belly up at my feet means they need/want brushed.
I know this is a photo blog--that still doesn't mean miss treatment of animals is acceptable.

I use to be a pet groomer.First off cats don't need there hair shaved.it is a protection for them (even in hot weather) second that is not a true lion cut.A lion cut shaves the entire body, all of the tail except a puff ball on the end ,and also the legs.if you want to keep a cat hairball free ,you should brush them everyday twice a day to get rid of loose hair.
I disagree with your vet. Should have seeked a second opinion. I am my own advocate in the wellfare of my pets. Beautiful cat though.
It's not mistreating your animals to take care of them. If I didn't get my cat's hair cut in the summer he would be suffering all the time. It gets hot here, and humid. I think the cat looks like somebody loves it and wants it to be comfortable.

It's just like a bad people haircut. In two weeks, give or take, it's going to be well on its way back to the original. I don't like shaving cats, I don't personally care for shaved cats and the lion cut doesn't make them look like a lion to me regardless of who does it.
However.....while this is, I'm sure, quite annoying to the cat (and I have no doubt it WILL give you payback doubled in spades LOL) but it's far, far, FAR down my list of abuses that can be done to a cat.And sorry, but diet won't take care of all hairballs for all cats. Some of them will form them no matter what you do or don't do. I had one that was brushed daily, and would STILL hack up a hairball at least three times a week.
What makes a cat so different from a dog? Dogs go to the groomer all the time and get haircuts (poodles, etc) and no one thinks that it is mistreating them, in fact it is expected. I have a maltese that has to have his hair cut when it gets hot or he is absolutely miserable, sits and pants constantly and can't get comfortable. I don't think a haircut is mistreating an animal, it may not make it happy, but it doesn't cause it any pain or any lasting discomfort. Once the process is done the animal moves on and forgets about it. And in most cases is much more comfortable.
Dria - that's a great photo.
