Hello Hoggers,

So first, yes I have searched this topic. No I don't want a link to a search of scanners. I'm looking for feedback, I want to know if what you have is good. If you know of a machine, but you don't have it and it will do what I'm looking for, I'd love to hear about that too.

I'm looking for a scanner for my mom so she can scan in all her 35mm slides. Some have plastic frames, some paper. She might even have strips of negatives. I've seen a wolverine one that will even scan prints and do it without a computer connected. She has 100s if not 1000s of slides. Most of the scanners I've looked at, you put 4 slides in a frame, then push the frame in to the scanner. Is there one that is an autoloader? Toss X amount in to a hopper and it'll grab and scan? Considering she has so many slides even Costco's price of $0.29 a slide might make it worth it to buy a machine that is a few hundred dollars. And if the device is a bit more for a woman who is 66 and doesn't work a computer well, then I'll certainly run the thing. And I'm a computer guy so I'm not worried about how complicated it is to run. So below is a break down of the order in which I find more important.

1 quality
2 load quantities, not 4 at a time
3 different formats, slide being the main, but would be nice to do prints too
4 price
5 ease of use
6 speed of scans, if I can drop in 50 slides and walk away I don't care if it takes hours to do them.

Thanks, Dave

Hello Dave. I am using an HP G4050 Scanner to scan my slides and negatives. It will scan 16 slides at a time, separate them into separate items and store in a file that you designate. You can walk away and it will continue to work on those 16. It also will scan negatives and individual photos up to 8x10, if you want. I am very happy with it. Cost, about $160, if I remember correctly. Could be a little more though. My HP printer will also scan photos up to 8x10. My next 'puter will probably be an HP.....

Jimmy, where do you shot racing? I have photographed several races.. for years..LOL http://www.cokerphotos.com/Sports

Bob, that is a nice group of photos. Makes me want to go back and do it again. I haven't been out to the track in years, though. I was always proud of my wheelstand pix, if they could lift them an inch, I could catch them up. What a great time you must have had shooting that race. Well done!

Look up photo stacking, most photographers that are doing advertisements use this method for greater detail and larger plain of field. Basically you take several photos of the subject with a tripod at different focal stops then combine the photos to make one precise photo. (similar to HDR but using focus points instead of light). Usually focus stacking is done with a macro lens however below is a photo I focus stacked with a 300mm tamron lens the first photo is one of the originals prior to stacking the second photo is the result of the stacking 4 photos of different focus points.

How can you possibly line up a shot with a live animal to overlay without any misalignment?? Was it stuffed?

NEED HELP I LOVE SHOOTING DRAG RACING USE PENTAX K10D BUT NEED TO USE A GOOD FLASH . ANY IDEAS FROM FELLOW PENTAX USERS

I don't use Pentax, but I shot at various dragstrips for many years with Konica 35mm's and a Sunpak 522 flash. It was very powerful and you could actually make out faces in the crowd on the opposite side of the track.

You might even be able to shoot from the grandstand with a comparable unit. Just ask your dealer what is the equivalent flash for a Sunpak 522. Back in the day (1975 or so) it was top of the line.

What is it that makes people feel the need to kill a creature for no good reason
Small, harmless and not a danger to anyone.
Live, and let live, please.

Definitely not harmless. Their bite will raise a good sized welt on your (in my case, leg) body that hurts like h@ll!

I noticed this from the article:
A “Million Hoodie March” vigil will take place in New York City on Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death.
I'm going to have to remember to get there early. I wonder if that icon the reverend Al will be speaking. Sure hope so. 8-)

I wish you luck, Bmac, be safe. Although if each marcher carries 50 hoodies, they would need only 20,000 marchers. You may not even need a wide-angle lens!
Question: Given that NY does not have a "Stand Your Ground" law, are there designated areas where one may defend oneself in the event of an attack? Perhaps Mayor Millionaire has thoughtfully provided for his constituency in some manner? Or perhaps you would have to go home and wait for the attacker to arrive? What if the attacker is unable to follow you home?

Hey Doc ..... New Yorkers don't need a stand ya ground law cause they shoot first, ask questions later and seeing dead men tell no tales it's a slam dunk .....

I think what he means is the alien face in the ice at 2:50. It is just to the right of center and just above mid level.

Besides, how would a sub get into a glacier moving at a snail's pace toward the ocean.

You guys should read "The Peter Principle". It is an entire book that explains why people are promoted until they can't do the job they are given and then they just stagnate there.

Many catfish are long lived like that. Some of the larger cichlids can live more than 15 years. Oscars, from South America, are one of them. Most of my cichlids are from Africa, though.

32 Fish Tanks ?

You in some kind of fishy business ?

Sarge69

No I do not have a business, but I do sell some of the young fish, at fish auctions, in and around Cleveland, that are the result of my fish spawning occasionally (helps defray the electric bill). I am just a hobbyist that is hooked on the behaviors of various catfish (corys & plecos from South America) and some of the smaller cichlids (pronounced sick-lids) from Africa. Mostly Lake Tanganyika and the West African rivers. Did you know that the females of some species of cichlids hold their eggs in their mouths, incubating them for up to a month (without eating), while the eggs develop into free swimming fry (babies)? Fascinating, eh?
