No, nothing mystical. I'm pretty sure the aberration resulted from camera movement and a reflection off a panel just to the left of the statue. Still, it is fun to think about what can show up in a photo. Thanks to all for sharing this with me!!
Those are awesome! No quick fixes for good photos, huh?
RMM--yes I do have a filter on my lens.
Very interesting picture. You're right, you can get some interesting effects, Jim.
Thanks to all of you. Your answers generally confirmed what I thought they would. That lets me know what to do to improve some more. I appreciate your help.
Thanks for viewing and the nice comment.
I would like to hear from some seasoned photographers their opinions about shooting black and white versus desaturating a color photo. Is there a significant difference in quality, contrast and/or anything else that makes a good b & w photo?
I have the same problem. The site would not accept my photo for the avatar either.
Taken on auto-focus with Canon PowerShot digital camera. Settings not noted. It was a weekday afternoon in Arizona.
I liked the picture of the bird perching on this cactus limb. I have not editied yet, but am considering cropping the bird in the lower right hand corner for better composition. All critiques and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

This problem is similar to another recent photo I posted. I was taking pictures in a old mission church in Arizona which did not allow flash photo.
I used auto focus with no flash on my Canon PowerShot digital camera. The subject of the picture was a statue in one of the church alcoves. There were small windows up high and one of them did allow some light into this particular alcove. There was also a table of lit candles to the left of the alcove
Due to use of auto focus I am not certain re the settings but believe they were approximatly ISO 400, 1/125, F2.8. I thought the photo might come out blurry without the flash so I took several from the same angle, about 8 feet from the statue. This was the only one that came out like this.
White
picture of same area again with no flash
Thanks to all who answered my question about the unexplained white "vapors" in my picture. The consensus seems to be movement of the camera while shooting. That seems plausible as I did not use a tripod. My camera does have some image stabilization, however......
Thanks for the response and encouraging words SW.
This photo was taken in an Arizona mission church which did not allow for flash photography indoors. I used auto focus on my Canon Powershot SX10IS, but I believe the settings were on or ISO 400, 1/125 and F2.8.
I was attempting to get a picture of a mummified body in a glass casket. I was about five feet from the subject and I shot from an angle to avoid any reflections from the glass. The only windows were small and high and no light from them was directed toward this alcove area.
I expected the shot would be blurry, but was surprised at how it turned out and would like to know what might have caused it--besides some resident spirit energy---
