I finally finished work on 3 albums from my trip to the "Stans" in Central Asia last fall. Mainly street photography. These 4 pictures were taken in and around the major city Almaty, in earlier years the capital of Kazakhstan before Astana superseded it. Pretty much a Soviet-style city with some interesting and sweet touches.

This is where I 'shoot' most of my roo shots. Some of my shots were facing the mid-morning sun, hence the 'diamond water' effect. A CPL would normally help with the glare on the water, but a CPL is out of the question with an ultra wide lens, & this lens is not threaded for a filter anyway. Downloaded is recommended.

Great shot, Christine! Hope they landed okay, especially since they aren't even in contact with their bikes!

They landed well. They are professionals and put on a great acrobat display in the sky. I was excited when i saw they had no contact with their bike. :)

Excellent Christine!!! But are they suppose to be on them?:):) Never saw anything like this!

Hi Erv

Yes they do acrobats in the air. All landed well on the other ramp. I was pretty excited when I saw I got this one with his hands free. :)

SX50 @ 1200mm equiv.

These huge birds were a surprise find. Brolgas are usually seen in a large field or some isolated area--but not these two. I was driving along an isolated road in the bush & came across a house & shed (the only building within about 10 miles) way off to the right. I could see two very large birds standing near the shed. I knew that they were too far away for my DSLRs, so I shot them with my trusty little SX50, hand held, but leaning against the side of my van. The house appeared to be lived in, so I would guess that the Brolgas have been befriended by the occupants. Downloading will show better details.

Wow! what a find Earl. I especially like the last one. Those security guards look rather mean. But then I don't think I'd want to visit that property with that baseball bat showing in the window. Did good mate

Folks, this is our little girl Missy. She's from a litter of 3 born on our front porch on April 3, 2012. Her two other siblings are twin black boys. She's small and dainty, always prepping and cleaning herself. I shot this with my Sony HX300 (handheld LH) while holding a 12" silver reflector (handheld RH) to add fill light in the shadowed areas. Processed with Photoshop Elements 10 with XXL, Topaz Detail and Framed using Perfect Effects 9.5. Now, you'll have to cut me some slack, I'm not a portrait photographer...but when I saw this scene and the lighting, it was hard to pass up.

Sorry not sure how double posted. :(. She's still gorgeous though.

This guy was sitting on a pole at the water's edge at the marina. I would have loved a more frontal shot, but if I tried to circle him, he would have vamoosed (which he did after 3 shots, anyway). The golden hour light was rich & the setting sun was directly behind me. Please download for better details.

Brilliant shots Earl.

Place two photographers at the same location and ask them to take pictures... You have two results reflecting their styles and skills (or lack of).

Location a secret? ffft... Guy who wrote this is a nutcase.

A. Adams picture taking locations are well known. Did anyone come out with something better from there? Nope. Different? Yes.

Couldn't agree with you more. We all bring our experiences and eye to a location and we will always see something different. :)
