I finally finished work on 3 albums from my trip to the "Stans" in Central Asia last fall. Mainly street photography. These 4 pictures were taken in and around the major city Almaty, in earlier years the capital of Kazakhstan before Astana superseded it. Pretty much a Soviet-style city with some interesting and sweet touches.

Very nice series. I find the composition of the second shot to be mesmerizing.

Thank you Cwilson for looking - even though much of the city is bland architecture, there are hidden gems and I was lucky to stumble upon some of them. If you are interested, there are more pictures on my web-site.

Thank you for looking and taking the time to comment - yes, this part of the world is quite colorful and my next postings of the area are probably more so - Kazakhstan was just sort of the convenient intial "appetizer" to the region.

Thank you for looking and your comment - I do think that this particular area of the world has a very low exposure but, after the decline of the Soviet Empire, has gained a lot of more latitude to express itself - hopefully for the better.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the children. They are adorable. Maybe one of the best little people pictures I've ever seen. It was most unexpected. If you could find the parented, I bet they would be thrilled to have a copy.

Looks like an interesting place that many of us will never venture to for a visit. Love the vibrant colors in your photos!

Thank you, Opa John, I loved their innocence and wonderment as well so I thought to include this shot in this selection

Thank you for having a look and taking the time to comment. Vibrant colors is certainly one of my "weaknesses" and on this trip through the various "Stan's" there were lots of interesting colors - I am posting some more, I particularly like the colors in Kyrgyzstan with the Burana Tower and the Tien Shan mountains.
