For many years a group of guys have gathered off Waikiki around 9-12 midnight to surf under the moon light …some of them have LED lights on their boards …

IMHO …, this is a hard shot to beat .. it’s a moving target off the light of a full moon ..more info than that would infringe on the proprietary aspects ..

A hint .., a boat with a powerful light …and timing ….

That is an excellent
shot! When I lived in Hawaii, at night, the wake of a surfboard beyond the break would sometimes stir phosphorescent, and the wake of the board and paddle strokes would glow.

Listen Up- there is NO Shame in upgrading your camera equipment even if only for GAS! If you want it and you can afford it then go for it. You don't need anyone's permission here to do that. You don't need anyone here setting limits on what you buy or how often you buy or if you should buy. If you have a closet full of unused equipment that is your business.

Will it make you a better photographer? Maybe or maybe not. But it will be fun to find out. New equipment will often push you forward to becoming better by the technical advances. It may help you see improvement which may be the catalyst for more improvement.

Why is it there is honor in using outdated equipment? It is often said here that my (really old) equipment works just fine. Well that's fine for you but don't use it as a measure of why someone else should not buy new.
Well said!

It use to be fun here seeing members say "The Brown Truck is coming and then it fell out of favor followed by other members denigrating the purchase of new equipment. (yes- I have been on this forum for a long time) Why- why taint new equipment purchase with underlying negative judgement? There are real advances in new cameras now that can achieve results that older cameras can't- ISO improvement, focus, reduced size and weight, focus stacking, interval and video results and many other advances.

So let's not treat our members as children but as thinking adults. We should be responding to the implied question of what did you gain by updating not should I update. And GAS is ok.

Cornell Lab has good info and comparison charts on their website between the Sharpie and Coopers. I vote Coopers. Regardless that is a nice photo!

Walking along a levee near flooded rice fields I watched this guy hunting. When he flew past I got this photo and he was looking at me. A very healthy Northern Harrier.

Thanks, billnikon The kids usually ride ahead of us for safety reasons. I have tried a video with my iPhone on the holder on the handlebars, but vibration can be a problem as well as the phone battery. I will probably order several mounts. I have a Bike Friday with a rack on the back that will make a good rear mount. My wife and I can put them in the middle.
Have fun and be Safe

Thanks, everyone, all good tips. I have Nikon DSLR's with video capability, but I can't mount any of them on my kayak or ski helmet. Tripod mount works great and/or handheld. When I order I will also get an extra battery.
Be safe and have fun!

I am considering a GoPro Hero 8 camera for bike riding with my grandkids. I will also use it for hiking and kayaking and possibly on horseback.
Any suggestions or comments + or-?
Thanks - Gary

Awesome! Lots of retired badges here! Those badges still on-duty are faced with SO MUCH more out there.
Now I'm glad to trip the trigger of my Nikon on positive views through the sights. The only adrenalin rush is when I start out on a new trail or if that bear just scented me. The vest I wear is goose down.
The animals in the woods are real animals, and the only thief maybe a hungry chipmunk or raccoon. The sirens are Steller Jays and Ravens. Code-7 is a Cliff Bar and an apple. The patrol supervisor is the weatherman.
Have fun and be safe and use a lot of pixels.

I have been doing photography approximately 40 years. It amazes me how you can freeze time. I have done weddings, senior pictures landscapes little leagues and portraits as an amatuer and enjoying every minute of it. I just wish I was good at editing and keeping them organized on my computer, I'm not very handy with the computer. I also like the natural photos without touch up. I look forward to viewing all the wonderful photos and getting advice from all of you, thank you.

Thank You for your time behind a Badge and hopefully retiring was your choice. Welcome to the Hedgehog.
