You can believe in yourself; but if your sensor throws away 60% of the frame, how will you ever achieve your potential as a photographer?

Have to agree with you and I don't care what naysayers have to say. I have done my own comparison tests and the full frame always came out better on the test and while shooting wildlife.

Right! A professional might not spend time thinking about gear, but people who do photography for a hobby are allowed that luxury. We're doing it for fun, not for the most bang for the buck.

I have not visited this forum in a while because it seems like there are too many people on here (not all) that want to dictate what we should or should not do or my camera or gear is better than yours and here we go again, the very first article.
Some of us take photos as a hobby and if we want to acquire new gear that might help with image quality then we should be able to do so without being put down. Are you using the first camera or gear that you used the first time you took a photo and if not why did you upgrade to something different? Was that a waste of time?
Maybe there should be a separate section for pro's and hobbyist. We hobbyist actually enjoy photography and new gear even if we are not perfect and I for one don't care if someone uses any of my photos, I would just consider that an honor that someone thought it was good enough.

Stop wasting time worrying about what other people want to do or buy.

Maybe it's just me but I have had both the first version and the second version Tamron 150-600mm lens and got really good results up to about 150' away but both seemed to get soft beyond that most of the time. With the Canon 100-400mm version II the image is still sharp at twice that distance or more. My nephew had the same problem with two different Tamron lens and now he uses a Canon lens with much better results. We both had great results with Tamron as long as the subject was not too far away but if it was, it was soft most of the time.

Beautiful shots Dean! This place used to be way more beautiful about 30-40 years ago before all the trees grew up from the bottom and hid a lot of the view and much of the tall peaks have eroded away since then from all those years of rain. Wish you could have seen it back then.
There are actually several canyons nearby in that area that are on private property that are similar to this. I used to ride motorcycles in that area almost every weekend back in the 70s and 80s and some of the trails went down in these canyons. It was a major challenge riding back up some of those hills.

Canon 5D MKII with Canon 100-400l @ 400mm f11 @ 1/1000 ISO1000 - Eastern towhee, Eufaula NWR, Alabama.

Nice photo! They seem to always hide in a dark place or too many limbs in the way when I see them. By the way, Eufaula NWR is my go to place for wildlife. It's only 35 miles from my house. The only problem is they have let the weeds get out of control and it's hard to get shots of anything there now. You can't see anything but trees and weeds from the observation decks now.

Great shot of one of my favorite birds! Look like you got a clone of his toes. You must have been removing or adding something to that spot. Still a great shot!

Nice shot of this beauty! I have yet to get a good shot of one, the lighting has always been terrible, either too dark or extremely backlit.

I like to use ISO 100, f/16, and Bulb. Use a remote release, tripod and frame the photo as desired. Remember what that frame is as you open and close the shutter. Open. watch what happens in the frame and in your mind imagine what you have just captured. Is that the image you want, then close. Do you want more, leave it open a little longer.

I have only shot fireworks once back in 2014 and I used about the same method as described here.

Bulb for 10 seconds, f/14, iso 200

faking injury.... you are a threat to its young.... follow her for a short time and she will probably fly off after she feels her peeps are safe.... my opinion

Correct answer. I have seen birds do this often. They will do this to make predators or you think they are injured to lure you away from their nest. Here is a Killdeer doing the same thing.
