One of the greatest rock guitarists of all time...and he actually played flute on the original recording.
I may have lost some short term memory in the 60's, but the good news is that now its long ago history and its back  8-)

Those who were in the studio with him will all tell you that he was actually playing a recorder. Listen to the texture of the sound produced, definitely a recorder. I was always more impressed by the limits he took his guitar solo to on that track, showed us all what the electric guitar was all about. Very much Experienced ;-)

Hey, I grew up in Lakeland. Quite familiar with Bok Tower Gardens, but left prior to there being a Circle B (and I spent a lot of time hanging around Highland City.) Would love to see more pics from/hear more about that area if you don't mind sharing. It amazes me just how much that city has grown since the late 50's/early 60's.

So did I, left in 77.....haven't been back since 98....

Dead nut or one of those red neck tech folks? ;-) Now there's a phrase I have not heard/used in a long while, lol. Left in '76, been back to visit a time or 2 since, last time being 2000 for the Sun-n-Fun Fly-in. Lived north of town up near the sprawling metropolis of beautiful downtown Polk City.

Lakeland is due west from there on state rd 60. Turn north on 98 and then east on winter lake road, circle b bar reserve is about 1 and 1/2 miles down on right.

If I'm thinking of the right area, that would be out CR 540/540A (never could keep those 2 roads straight, lol) in the vicinity of Lake Hancock? Bernie Little had a Budweiser warehouse at the intersection of Winter Lake Road and US98? Surprised I can recall that much, lol. If I'm thinking of the right area, it is definitely nice out there, I recall Hancock being overrun with gators way back when. One of these days I might just have to return and see just how much the area has changed.

Copyright is more of a worry for pro's who sell their photos, to prevent the jerks out in cyberland from downloading and attempting to pass them off as their own. Had a friend do a shoot for NG and her pics showed up all over the net within 1 day of her posting them on her own site. Unique water marks work, anything that can identify and date the picture to establish ownership. Of course, for folks such as myself, if someone is desperate enough to claim my work it just makes me chuckle.

I've had problems with Gimp as well since I reloaded it on my system. Replaced the corrupted DLL file it flagged and it worked great until the next time I opened it, then it was back to either can't find the file or the file is corrupted. Read somewhere in the past few days that the current version has been experiencing this malady on a wide scale for us Windows folks, so hopefully they'll get it fixed soon.

Give FDRTools a try, their basic version is free and produces a relatively nice HDR image with just a few clicks. It does not offer the artsy stuff, but it produces the best clear image I've seen from freeware and it is the simplest software I've ever learned to use. Their advanced version is free to try also; it has no time limit programed in to it but like the free version of Photomatix it sticks an ugly watermark in your finished print. HDR Express has produced some good results as well (limited time trial period), with a relatively easy learning curve.

I grew up in Lakeland, spent a good deal of time around Dade City. Have found a lot of good tips on here, hope you enjoy it.

Has to be rough to live in one of the most scenic areas in the US and loose your zest for photography. Have you given macro any thought? Was getting a bit bored myself until I started seeing how small I can go, now I'm more enthused than ever. Hope you'll share the photos of the wild horses, always been one of my favorite sights to behold.

Never used Corel, what is special about it? Kind of leery of companies that charge you to download a product you have already purchased from them, to me that says our product sucks so we have to make our money somehow. Even more leery of companies that add items you did not request to a shopping cart. So is Corel just really that bad at sales, or am i correct about the quality?

Adobe does exactly the same thing and so does Microsoft. It's a marketing thing and it is very far from company-specific. They do NOT charge you to download a product you've purchased: if you buy the "box" the download is free. The charge, if you choose to pay it (and I don't usually), is insurance in case something happens to your hard drive after 2 years (you can re-download it for 2 years after buying it). You don't pay the insurance if you buy the box because you have a DVD in the box; it's just if you've opted for the download only which is cheaper than the box.

They make good products at a fair price. Their upgrade prices are more than fair. As I said, I've been using this line of products since it was freeware, then JASC, and finally Corel. This is not a newcomer to the scene. It was the first photo editing application I ever used and even though I have PS and other tools, I still use it because sometimes, it's just a lot easier and faster.

We may well just be arguing semantics, but I see what they're doing as bad marketing; and FWIW, I avoid the other big companies that resort to such tactics to make an extra buck as well. I guess you could go as far as to say I'm somewhat of an old hippie out to topple capitalism one company at a time, lol. Add that to the fact I have not even heard the name Corel mentioned since the mid 90's, and it makes me ask what does this software offer? Does it include features I can't find in other software I already own? Users tend to offer much better answers to these and other questions as they are not financially motivated to sway me into buying (I usually skip over perfect product reviews and go straight to the complaints to see what sort of issues have been encountered.)

I'm disabled (read limited fixed income) on top of being frugal (wth, yeah I'm cheap as all get out, lol) so I probably expect a bit more from companies I deal with than the average person; I can guarantee that I definitely give them more grief than the average consumer, lol. Definitely appreciate you posting the link and info, researching this product will give me something to do today.

Namaste to you as well.

Corel is the originator of Word Perfect which is still selling surprisingly well and a lot of various niche graphics software. Many of their products are not for me, they are aimed more at graphic artists than photographers. I think PSP is their only entry into the market: they used to have a very stripped down version of it that was really convenient for viewing, sorting, basic cropping and stuff like that. They discontinued it years ago, but I have a CD of it and we all still use it. Very limited functionality, but takes up almost no space on the computer and does what it does well.

I like the products. I always have. You don't have to buy them. I think they are amazingly good value for the money. I live on SS Disability too and they have always been THE most economical high quality tools I could find. That you haven't heard of them is neither here nor there: they've been around and active for two decades.

Thanks for the insight. I can remember WP very well, used it extensively when it first came out. I liked it, was even quite proficient at using it, just have not used it since the 90's. Corel was a fairly popular brand back then, they seemed to have been buried by MS Word and others that followed though, hence I have not heard the name mentioned since (not that I have actually done any searches for it over the years.) I know they had other software titles back then, I just never had the opportunity to try any of them. I can definitely appreciate the insight from one who knows what having to be frugal is all about. I saw they have free trial downloads available, do you know if these are full on versions or if they are limited to key features? Getting interested in giving it a try.

Can someone describe what the extension tube does for macro and how to use it properly. Also it it a good substitute for a macro if you are just testing the waters to see if you like that type of photography.

Quite simply, extension tubes extend the focal length of your lens without adding extra glass, allowing you to focus closer to the subject.

Been using the cheap tubes myself, and yes, they do require a bit of effort to master but it is totally doable. The trick to making the newer lens work is to set the aperture on the lens (while the lens is normally attached to the camera), then mount the tube/s followed by the lens. Yep, a real PIA, but it does work. I always shoot manual settings anyway, so that part is no issue for me. It does get old having to go back and forth with the process if you want to change aperture, but that's the price we must pay for being cheap. Namaste
