Hello! I am new to this site (obviously...) so I just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Mistydawn and I have a Canon Rebel EOS digital SLR which I just LOVE but feel like recently I have lost my flare for photography and want to get back into it. I bought my first SLR when I was 16 (now 30) and was hooked from the get-go. My camera has gone absolutely everywhere with me since then, even in places I shouldnt bring it (like on raft trips!) but lately I think I have lost my talent... or maybe just misplaced it... and I want to feel that creative excitement that I used too so often so I thought this might be a good place too start. I am the girl on the left in the picture and my best friend and fellow camera junky Sandi is on the right. My most amazing and fulfilling photography achievement was 2 years ago when I spent 6 months living in Wyoming and spent nearly every day out there in the freezing subzero temperatures photographing herds of wild horses. For some reason after that incredible experience I feel like nothing else is exciting. So here I am, trying to change that and find that flare for photography again. Almost all of my images are SWOC and I very rarely ever editing software and if I do its just plain old Picasa, nothing fancy. Some day I would like to buy Lightroom but have not yet. Well I guess thats me and photography in a nutshell. :o) time to get creative!

Beautiful Oregon is RIGHT!
My son went to college in Oregon and we visited him by traveling by train across country. Who needs the rest of the world when we have such a beautiful country. I'm from Ma. and although we have some very beautiful coast lines and ocean views I was blown away by the coast of Oregon. We stayed at Heceta Head lighthouse, which turned out to be the highlight of the trip to the coast.
I just joined the site also. I haven't done any serious photography in 40 years. Now that I'm retired I really want to spend some dedicated time at it. As far as losing your passion for the hobby, it is not unlike other things you enjoy, you may need some time away from it. I always felt my best pictures just happened and I just happened to be there. I am not anywhere close to the level of what I see on the site, but I am just waiting for that great shot to find me.

Has to be rough to live in one of the most scenic areas in the US and loose your zest for photography. Have you given macro any thought? Was getting a bit bored myself until I started seeing how small I can go, now I'm more enthused than ever. Hope you'll share the photos of the wild horses, always been one of my favorite sights to behold.

Namaste

Hi from another southern Oregon photographer want-to-be.
Did you know that there is a butterfly farm in Cave Junction? and of course the Great Cats. Lots to take pictures of in our area.
I'm in Medford and wish we had a photo club here. Welcome to this forum. Lots of help and encouragement here

Welcome!

We just returned from an RVing trip to Oregon...we live in northern Califonia. I feel very spoiled to live in a place so scenic and to have other beautiful areas so close.

Here are some from our Oregon trip.

We live in Redding, CA.

Oh also I DID go to the butterfly farm recently and the cat park. The butterfly farm was fantastic :) I love that the little buggers arent camera shy!! The cat park was cool too but because I dont have a big enough telephoto lense my pictures had the chain link fences in them which I dont like, I think they are rather depressing.

These 2 photos are of my first ever herd of wild horses. I almost had a heart attack because I was so excited! I jumped out of my car like a maniac fumbling for my camera because I didnt expect to see them. They were crossing the road, right on a blind curve, and they all ran across the road except for the stallion, he stopped in the middle of the road (he is the white one rearing up) and stood there and waited for his mares to all get across the road before he got out of the road. I was yelling at him to move (I didnt want a car to hit him) but he stayed put til everyone had crossed. luckily no cars came. Then I followed them up a hillside photographing them till I couldnt see them any longer. It was such an amazing experience and every time after that, every day even 6 months later, I still got THAT excited and more every time I saw them :)

The 2nd shot is absolutely amazing. I remember as a child I always carried a little rope with me in case I saw a wild horse and I could rope it, LOL. Have you been to the Burns holding station? Also the WildLife Safari is great as you are right out with the animals.
I was told about the Grants Pass club but if one is in Medford it would be so much better for me.

Im not sure what Burns holding station your talking about. I have been to wildlife safari but it was on a day that was hot and all the critters were very inactive LOL I guess I need to make another trip up there! Im hoping to make it up to Silver falls in a few weeks and hopefully get some nice fall colors in.

Burns is the holding station for the wild horses that BLM
rounds up in eastern Oregon.
Be sure and take a rain coat to Silver Falls. It should be lovely up there this time of year but wet.
