[quote=burkphoto]You know, John, Gene51 is one of the good guys here. He honestly wants to help the original poster. You might understand if you noticed that Gene has over 22,000 posts on UHH. Many of those are very detailed solutions to simple and complex problems.

Sorry, Burkphoto, but just because you have 22,000 posts shouldn't give you the right to be rude and inconsiderate. You are correct that he answers many questions but that doesn't change the rules of etiquette.

Too much saturation. But, the composition and exposure look very good.

I don't have much experience or interest in trains yet I find these images to be outstanding. They make me want to check out some trains in Flagstaff, AZ.

[quote=rmalarz]Photography - writing with light.

I don't often do this but after reading this thread the only comment I can make is the following definition of grandiloquent = pompous or extravagant in language, style, or manner, especially in a way that is intended to impress.
No disrespect meant, just calling this the way I see it.

And, if that's the entire importance of the response to the topic, the response could be skipped altogether too ...

No disrespect meant but, some of your responses to topics are among the least relevant or important. As I said, no disrespect, just an observation.

I empathize with you. Very frustrating when this happens.

Excellent job. I really like the end result.

You might want to try to fade the blur you've applied so that right under the duck that's landing the water is sharper and then fades the further away it gets. But again, you did an excellent job post-processing.

Let's be honest. There's absolutely nothing of any photographic value gotten out of these discussions about SOOC vs Post-processing. It's just about personal opinions and choices.

[quote=Rongnongno]Get it right is not about 'perfect exposure' despite what it says.

Getting it right is to insure that you expose the way you want it to achieve the effect you want from over to under exposed there is nothing wrong IF intentional.

Rongnongno and kymarto Got it right.

Overgeneralizing - The perception - on UHH at any rate - is that many folks are sloppy. I think this is an erroneous perception based on the frequent commentary, pro and con, about "fixing" in pp.

Too Negative - Rather than making excuses for poor results, one might consider instead: if you want better pictures, take better pictures.

No - I'm sure you wouldn't - and haven't. Sorry - I didn't pose that question well or with due thought.

No apology necessary. No disrespect taken. : )

[quote=Wallen]A lot had been discussed about how the final image should be shown and I personally put them into these four categories...

So let's see if I have this right. I take a photo as a jpeg. This is my base file which I opend in Lightroom and did some editing, so this has been Processed. But I also removed a pimple and a power line so it must be Soft Edited. Oops, I forgot, I also removed a small scar and did some cloning, so I guess it's been Hard Edited. I also forgot that I moved a flower pot so I guess the image was Manipulated. So, I guess I have a SOOC Jpeg, Processed, Soft Edited, Hard Edited and Manipulated photo... What a joke. : )
