Nice shots, get rid of the red store nectar and just use water and sugar, boil the water and add the sugar and let it cool.
They will love it.
Looks like I use the same feeder.
Shot this yesterday.

Thanks for the info on the nectar, I will brew my own as you suggested.

My little friends have returned. Now I need to do some practice to get some decent images. Enjoy.

It doesn't look like the male has his crest yet, so he may be a juvenile and that might be his mother feeding him. I have seen this behavior underneath my bird feeder at times. It is funny cause each time I have seen it, the mother is feeding the son, and the father is feeding the daughter. I knew it was the kids because of their size, no crest, and their wing behavior. I watched them grow up all summer.

Thank you for your thoughts dragonswing.
The crest is not shown in this picture but he does have one.
Take care

During mating season the male will feed the female. It shows he is good provider and will be a good mate.

Thanks for the info GWR

Can someone explain what these cardinals are doing ?
Perhaps it has something to do with feeding a young family?
Thanks for your help.

Don't know if it is okay to include a photo in reply to a post. Sorry if that is a no no.

This was taken with a Nikor 70 300mm lens at a focal length of 300mm. f stop 5.6 and shutter speed 1/4000

If you have a similar lens it may give you another option for capturing this Bee without having to get so close. When I try to get close they tend to move away.
Take care

Joe, these are some of the best I have ever seen.
I dream about an opportunity like this and you got to live it, lucky you.

Looked at the other painted ladies and compared to mine and I see it has a yellow rim the others don't have. Do these patterns vary that much?

For me it's the white marks at the wing tips that makes me think Painted Lady.

Thanks to you all for taking the time to respond.
If your lucky enough to slow down the action enough you can see things not visible to the "naked eye".

Someone gave way as there were no bodies on the ground.

I think this was a newly fledged bird that hadn't yet learned to fear humans. He certainly didn't fear me.
Don't know what type of bird it is.
