Wow, I didn't know we had such esteemed photographers on here. Congratulations!
Got the RX100 and have been using it. I really like it so far. Can't believe the quality of pictures, even in low light.
Hi All,
I'm so happy with my pocket camera. Here's a picture of a sunflower, and a 100% crop where you can see a little critter crawling around.

Thank you, jolemery. I feel welcome. Still haven't bought a good camera yet. I'm glad you don't mind newbies on this forum.
Hey, GLeneric. I'm from Whitehorse. I think that qualifies as Northern.
Right on, LKincaid. The D50 looks pretty sweet. I'm sure you can get them for a reasonable price these days, at least with a modest lens.
I guess that's one of the main functions of this forum is to share photos to help and inspire each other - make us want to get out there and shoot pictures.
Thanks, guys. I hate to say that I've been taking pictures with my crappy phone camera until I take the plunge and buy at least a high end compact to start with. This seems like such a complicated hobby - so many things to discuss.
Anyone have the Sony RX100? This seems like a nice compact. I notice that photographers, such as my friend who works at the local newspaper, always carry a compact in their pocket so they're never without a camera. Seems smart to have the best compact you can find.
Thanks for the welcome. I'll check out these expensive cameras you all are recommending.
I'm sure the 5100 is great. The 3200 is the new kid on the block. Not sure if the 24 MP sensor makes much difference.
I looked up the Canon 7 D - it looks awesome.
I'll probably go for an entry level camera, perhaps the Nikon 3200. Any opinions?
I'm totally new to this photography thing. It looks like fun. Still haven't bought a really good camera yet! I'm hoping I'll be able to make a good decision based on help from forums such as these.
