I have been using this printer since it was first introduced with my PC and my iMac OS10 El Capitan (which is the latest iteration of Mac desktop OS). I use the tools downloaded from the Canon site and the drivers have always worked with all of my OS upgrades. I have found it to be an excellent and fun printer and prints of very high quality. Very reliable and supported by Canon. Great gift from your friend. Get some good quality paper and have some fun.
Lots of luck buying the upgrade. Adobe has it so well hidden on their site it is almost impossible to find and buy. I really distrust companies that do this sort of thing. Why be so devious?
