You don't have to read it. Just stick with the general photography forum.

I'm well aware of that thanks, and certainly didn't read every post in full, a brief look was sufficient to make me feel the need to post my comment.

Cheerio Ugly Hedgehog.

How lucky you are to see such a bird, and well done on the captures. Over here we only get three species of Woodpecker, the Greater Spotted (pictured), Green Woodpecker and the Lesser Spotted, the latter being as rare as Rocking Horse poo.

I've had and have macros by Canon , Nikon , Pentax and Tamron . The major difference ; build quality . I've had and used my Tamron for more than ten years and it's never failed .
I urge you though to focus manually for any close to subject shooting . be it for macro or portraiture .
Would I rcommend it to a friend ? ..................
ABSOLUTELY .

Praise indeed, and recommendation re manual focus noted, thanks Bill.

Welcome to Day 205 Today is all about Friendship
Mighta been a tough one for our Esteemed Leader Sherrie.
So Ill get us started off.
Remember LOVE DEEPLY and dont put off til tomorrow what you can say today to all your good friends and family.

This picture was from the Kid's Day festival I shot on Saturday. The young woman volunteers at a Raptor Rescue Center. This Red Tailed Hawk is in its mid-20's, one of the older ones know to be in captivity. It was taken from the nest for a pet before its mother taught it how to hunt. The bird cuddles with her, rubs its head against her cheek like a cat. She said it will pull on her shirt for that close, affectionate attention.

What a lovely shot, clearly an affection between the girl and the Hawk, so nice to see.

Beautiful images, thanks for your recommendation. One Tamron 90mm on order today!

Oh, thanks, jonnyd. There are two versions of this lens. Be sure and get the new version designated with the Di(digitally integrated) and SP(super performance). Also, be sure and rent one first, because tamron lenses could be inconsistent from copy to copy.
It is highly recommended by Photozone. Here read this review:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Tamron-90mm-f-2.8-Di-Macro-Lens-Review.aspx[/quote

http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/282-tamron-af-90mm-f28-di-sp-macro-test-report--review[/quote]

By coincidence I had already read the Photozone review, they clearly rate the lens highly, and I will be sure to get the DI version. With regard to renting, if I rent one first in the UK I'm guessing that would already be a 'used' one and so when I purchase it would be a different lens anyway? Or have I got that wrong?

Thanks again friend.

I like #1 with the color and reflection of the flower but the junk in the back is distracting...any way to crop itout and keep the good stuff?
I agree about the 2nd shot...gorgeous but not really clear

Thank you! I did try getting the moss out and I have attached the photograph for your opinion. To me it looks very clean and much better! Thanks for your advice on my behalf. Please let me konw your opinion.

For me the original is better, the water just looks more natural. Okay, the moss is a bit intrusive, but it's a great shot overall.

They certainly are sharp, and I took a look at the link shot, impressive. I guess I have a pretty steep learning curve to travel lol. Thanks for posting.

This is a shot of my Grandson, Finley, and I get a lot of pleasure from looking at it because it captures his pensive mood that day. I'm fairly new to digital photography so would appreciate unbiased views of the photograph, thanks. (i think :) )

Beautiful child. I hope you don't mind....I thought it looked just a tad bit soft. Tweeked it just a bit.

I certainly don't mind at all, I like that a lot, how did you do that please if you don't mind me asking?

Perhaps while on the topic, could you or anyone else tell me why there is what I can only call a 'ghosting' effect on the left hand side of Finley's face? I kept the lens (Nikon 50mm 1.4) wide open to minimize the DOF, is that the reason for it?

I'm keen to learn as much as possible, so hope you don't mind the questions. Thank you!

I use a free software called FastStone and I love it. I just used the sharpening tool....slightly. Too much sharpening makes the photo too grainy. As for the ghosting, it just looks to me like a lighter area in the background, difussed by your DOF. Doesn't bother me....I think the backround should soften in portraits.

Thanks for your reply. Will need to look at FastStone for sure.

Hi guys, thinking of getting the Tamron 90mm macro lens, just wondering if anyone has experience of it. Read several reviews and the consensus does seem to point to it being a good lens, but I'd appreciate any comments from people on here as I know I can trust them.

Thanks.
