This is a shot of my Grandson, Finley, and I get a lot of pleasure from looking at it because it captures his pensive mood that day. I'm fairly new to digital photography so would appreciate unbiased views of the photograph, thanks. (i think :) )

I get a lot of pleasure from looking at this photograph of my Grandson Finley, for me it just captures the pensive mood he was in at the time. However, I would appreciate some unbiased views on the shot guys if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks (I think ;) )

I like it :) .... I was told that when you take a portrait your focus should fall on the eye closest to you....The way his eyes are looking down I can't tell...He is a beautiful little boy I can see why you get so much pleasure from him.
Grandchildren are a great joy! Keep shooting I'd like to see more......

By the way, I don't think you can get a truly unbiased opinion from anyone. All children are great. Even if the pic isn't good(which yours is just fine), you keep those also.

I like it. Good exposure, kind of soft but it works with his expression. I know a four year old named Finley. Yours is a handsome little guy.

Thanks for your feedback, and the nice comments about Finley.
Ian, you wouldn't want to be in Hastings at the moment, weather has been horrendous.
I'll post up the colour shot when I get a moment, for comparison.

maybe because i'm old and my eyes are not the best, even with glasses but to me the sharpest part of your great looking grandson is the hair just down from the part, left hand side... other than that, great shot regards ringo

You get so much pleasure from this photo so you decided to post it twice. Lol

I love it. Exposure is nailed, composition is good and like you say it captures his mood. What else do you need in an image? I like black and white images also.

It trully is a beautiful pic. You picked a good f/stop for DOF. I too like about 3inches for a portrait DOF.

I'll have to be honest, that had me frantically searching Google, but glad I did. Love this quote by AN, "The only thing that matters is if it is honest. If [the picture] is honest, you and everybody can tell. If it is dishonest, you and everybody can tell. That explains what good photography is about."

Thanks for the feedback Fred.
