Hi everyone
I am looking at buying the cheaper third party spare batteries for my P950 but they all seem to be EN-EL20 and not the EN-EL20A that is required.
The EN-EL20 is listed as being suitable but the hand book says not to use them.
So can I or can I not use the EN-EL20.
Or can anyone recommend a good third party battery that's tried and tested and safe to use.

And thanks for any help you can give me on this matter.

Just to let you guys know I went for the 40mm because it was in stock and I have just had a very quick play with it and my first impressions tell me I won't be disapointed with it.
I may still decide to get the 50mm G as well, after all as lenses go they are a very reasonable price.
And for the macro side of things I will also try out my other lenses with reversing rings to see how they perform and then if I decide to take it more serious I will look at getting a better macro lens.

Again thank's everyone for your views and comments.

Thanks for your comments and help guys and thanks to Shagbat for your comment on my photos a bit of support is a nice confidence booster :-)

It seem stocks on both lenses are a bit rare in the stores around here at the moment so it may come down to which one is available at the right price and the price does vary quite a lot between stores.

The lenses I own to date are Nikkors 35mm F1.8 / 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 / 70-300 f4.5-5.6 and the Samyang 8mm fisheye.
The macro side is not too important to me at the moment but would be a nice extra feature but I am adding primes to my collection mainly because of the benifits of speed and sharpness that they have over the zoom type lenses.

This link to Flickr will give you a example of what sort of photography I mainly do and yes I still do have a lot to learn. lol

Hi Donald & Oldtigger
I have seen the Ken Rockwell review and realise its not the best for macro but it would get me by for now.
I am after a budget prime lens that is sharp and will perform well in low light and as I do have the 35mm its looking like the 40mm will be my best option over the 50mm.
I would only be losing out by 10mm and the reviews seem to suggest that the 40mm does produce better quallity images than the 50mm but then its not quite as fast.
This is why I can't make my mind up one is faster and better for low light and the other is slightly slower but is said to be sharper and also gives me the macro option.
I think I will most likely end up with both eventually.

I'm hoping for a bit of help from owners of these lenses on which one I should get first for use on my D7000 and D7100.
I am trying to get a good range of prime lenses and already have the 35mm f1.8 and I was going to get the 50mm for street and portrait photography.
The reviews say the 50mm f1.8 is pretty sharp but can have some slight distortion and reviews on the 40mm f2.8 micro say it is better being very sharp with no distortion across the board.
I am beginning to lean towards the 40mm because even though its not the best macro lens it does give me the option to do closeup and macro and apparently is very good for street photography as well.

Thanking you for any help and wishing you all a Happy New Year :-)

Thank's MT shooter, SX2002 and 2thfxr for the advise I think for the extra £15 it will cost me I will now go for the 498RC2 just in case I do ever get a heavier lens. :-)

I am going to get a new and more sturdy tripod which will most likely be the Manfrotto 055xPROB.
I am now trying to make up my mind should I get the Vanguard GH200 or the Manfrotto 496RC2 I do fancy a pistol grip for ease of use but I feel the ball head will be the most reliable choice.
I will be using a D7000 or D7100 and the heaviest lens I have is a Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED.
I'm sure there will be a few members out there that own one or both of these items who can advise me.

It has only started recently but if I can't cure it I will have to stop using ugly hedgehog.
But I will try a popup blocker first.

Just wondered is anyone else getting virus warning popup when viewing ugly hedgehog forum on your mobile smartphone.
I get two within a short time that will cancel off screen then a third one that will not cancel off screen causing me to have to close page down.

It only happens with ugly hedgehog pages and not any other websites I have run various anti virus and anti malware software programs which came up clear.

I have now tried another smartphone and it still happens so it does not seem to be a virus in the phone and it does not happen on my computer so it seems to be linked to the mobile version of the forum.

Hope someone can help because I tend to be away from home all week so I rely on my smartphone and the popups are preventing me from viewing ugly hedgehog for more that a minute or two.

Thanks for all your replies and tips and I really like the idea that the D7100 is better in low light as I do like night photography and I am also into ghost hunting and do not like to use the flash so that I can try and capture the spooky atmosphere.
But I was told by someone in another forum that the d7100 was worse than d7000 for noise, I wish that I knew someone local to me with d7100 so that I go and compare them for myself.

I am toying with the idea of part exchanging my D7000 for the D7100 because the reviews indicate a much sharper and better quality image with the D7100 and the 1.3 crop feature would give me a slightly better advantage when zooming in with my 70-300mm lens.
So I was wondering if any members have experience with both of these cameras and could advise me whether or not it is worth upgrading.
