I also am just a learner...

I'm closer to you than anyone that has replied so far...Willow Grove. My sister-in-law lives in West Chester.

It is a little difficult to talk to someone "in hiding," but I'll give it a shot (excuse the pun)."
I'm in sorta the same shape as you are finaniially (as MANY of us are).

I deal a lot with B&H and Adorama in New York as well as my local camera shop. A few years I saw an ad for a lens and finally bought it. Over the years I have upgraded the lens until I have their latest iteration and I LOVE it. Great for walk-around, birds, my grandchild and anything else I can thing of.

It is a Tamron 18-270 (comprable to a film lens of 28ish-400ish) and can get almost anything!

I LOVE it and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Currently it costs a little less than $700. Check it out.

Hi -
This question has nothing to do with gas prices. However you have a travel trailer and so do I. BUT, mine is an oldie and I'm looking for shocks/springs for it and can't find them. It is a Sprite trailer whose original manufacturer was in UK, but the trailer wan an American experiment - they lasted about 4-5 years here and then "went home" to the UK. Now, they're out of business and I can't move the trailer without new shocks/springs!
Any idea if/how you or cna of your camping buddies might give me some leads? I've been working on this for over 5 years and am incredibly frustrates an I completely rebuilt the inside, made new bunks etc and now can't use it. I didn't realize how bad the shocks/sprigs were - it bounces all over the road!
Believe it or not it is a 1973 Sprite Muskateer and we'd love to go camping with out 4 year old granddaughter.
Can you be of any help - PLEASE???

I'm not sure yet-your response was so quick! I'll have to check to see what the book cost it was somewhat costly (but WELL WORTH it) (you know the program retails for $99), but I got it for $79.
I'm running it on a WinXP desktop system with 2 gigs of RAM and it runs well. Photoshop Elements v8.
Price I guess should be about 1/3 of original, but let me check. I'll get back to you in a day or so...thanks for the interest.

I have a v8 of Photoshop Elements for sale if you're interested. It also comes with a professional book on how to use it. "The Missing Manual" which is VERY good.
Let me know.
Thanks

There is a freebee that I often use. It is called WirePilot and is made specifically for removing wires! Pretty cool job.

BTW-My wife and I were there years ago and I'd like to say that your pictures bring back many memories of our trip there. Your pictures are WONDERFUL, from both a photographic and a memory standpoint.
We were there so long ago, that we actually met the last two living Shaker Sisters! They both were very old at that time, but wonderful to talk to. It was very interesting to be there when someone was actually living the Shaker life there in their home.
While I don't live a Shaker type lifestyle, I find them a fascinating and interesting people. Obviously you think so too. They were also terrific business people and very innovative and clever. They are interesting to study.

The Shakers had some of the very first electrified villages in America!

Your explanation of the use of the barn is correct. But, you have to remember that we are talking about resourcefuul and CLEVER people.
The reason the barn is round and ground level is so that they could walk the horses and wagons into the barn and load/unload whatever they were dealing with. The important point to be made here is that once they were finished their work they could continue walking the horse & wagon AROUND inside the barn and back to the door WITHOUT BACKING UP! Backing up a horse and wagon would be a really tricky feat! It is just easier to continue AROUND the barn and out the same door. How incredibly clever! Horses don't like to go backwards - esecially when they're hauling a wagon.

I think you'll find it is a great camera. Several firends have one and love it. I have a 40D and love it. Can't justify anything "bigger" at this point.

I have bought MUCH of my equipment over the years from the "refurbished" department from both B&H and Adorama. You may have to wait a little while for what you want, but eventually between the two of them you'll find what you want. Heck, about 18 months ago they even had a 1200 mm Canon long lens, refurbished, for only $99,000! They sell stuff that is FACTORY refurbished (no black market or similar stuff) and they guarantee what you buy.

The few times I had to return something and I got no hassle from either of them. They're both good to do business with.

As an addendum to this discussion I'll add a few things.
I write left handed, but not in the usual way leftied do - I do not "hook." I write in an exact mirror image of a rightie, so do my daughters.
All through elementary school the teacher would come by my desk, take the pencil out of my left hand and put it into my right hand, all the while telling me that the left hand was that of the devil! (Is the devil left handed?) Well, it may be, but my left hand makes and repairs furniture, makes stained glass windows and I am a LEFT HANDED drummer (I always got stuck at the end of the drum line so my drum didn't bang against the righties' drums.
I'm pretty ambidextrous, but in a 90% rightie world you have to be. I play golf righthanded but am a switch hitter in baseball.
I am also left foot dominant. Again, as a leftie you must learn to live in a righthanded world.
I am right eyed for photography, but left eyed with a rifle and pistol.
My hero is the leftie, Leonardo (but I can't paint like him, other than with a roller!)
