I didn't see any, they probably saw me first.

Another photographer I ran into took a photo of a rattle snake on the Laurel Falls Trail later the same morning I was there.

I'll make sure and wear my heavy boots and keep my eyes open; wouldn't mind a chance to photograph them. I caught and collect snakes as a kid but none that were poisonous.

I have seen photographers use gaffers tape (less sticky) to cover the eye piece to take longer exposures and night shots. I have yet to ask Canon if this is a valid practice.

When I bought my Canon DSLR they provided a cover for this purpose so I'm guessing they think it matters.

You want to make sure the white balance is set the same for all shots in a set.
You should probably stitch each set of 5 to see how the clouds look since the tend not to stay still and then decide which to process further. I usually process the photo as a color photo first an then create a BW version.

I have recently taken 6 sets of five photos for a landscape photo to be stitched together. I shot the photos in Raw format. Hopefully it will result in a 114 in long by 33 in. high quality B&W photo. I would greatly appreciate help in numbered steps for me to creating the clearest photo possible. I have Photoshop, Elements 9, and Aperture, and Image Data Converter. I plan to end up with a Tiff photo prior going to a commercial printer to make the final copy.

So, do I keep the color thru the entire modification process, then switch to B&W as the final step, or go to B&W prior to any modification. I shot the photos on a magnificently cloudy day. I know the clouds will wash out and need to be enhanced. What step should this be? Then what are the other steps in a numbered sequence?

1. Shoot photos.
2. Select final (best) set from the 6 sets
3. Stitch five photos into one photo
4. Convert to B&W (?)
5. etc. etc.

I'm a photoshop guy, elements to be precise, so I have no idea about LR. I just upgraded to PSE11, and also purchased LR4. When I load a raw file into PSE, it automatically launches Adobe Camera Raw. However, when I load a raw file into LR, it does not launch ACR. How do I open ACR within LR??

Thank You.

I would check out the following or similar videos; it will save you a lot of time for little money.

LR has the Develop module which is very similar to ACR and performs the same function as ACR.

I shoot raw + JPG fine. WB adjustment on both my Nikon D90 & Nikon D5000 effect only my JPG images, not my NEF captures, when viewed in Picasa 3.9. I cannot speak for any other camera models, nor any other Post Processing programs.

Other raw processing software uses the WB setting in the camera as the As Shot WB (a default starting point for WB). It obviously does not have any affect on the raw file itself.

I have enjoyed photography for a few years now. Mostly my daughter, her sports, dances etc... I have done a few weddings for friends. I started with the T1i and now am using the T3i. I am debating a new camera. Either the T4i or possibly the 6D or 60D. I am really undecided. I will stay with canon but would like to start maybe doing more professional type photos. What are your thoughts....

The T1i was a good starter camera with the T3i adding better features, but unless you can state that you have outgrown the features of your current camera my suggestion would be better glass. If however you are bent on upgrading then you will need to decide why.

The T4i is unique in that it was the first Canon DSLR to offer Continuous Focus in Video using the M-series lenses. It is sort of a hybrid between the T3i and the M Series. This may be a consideration if you will shoot a lot of video too.

The 60D is the logical step-up from the T3i as it is the first stage into the Prosumer Market with the 7D as the ultimate camera before the Full Frame Market. What you gain with each is better features especially with speed and low light.

The 6D is the newest member of the Full Frame Market although not as respected as the 5D Mark III it does have the newest technology of the Full Frames.

There are several sites you can use to compare one against the other, but for now I offer http://snapsort.com/compare
For example http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-EOS-6D-vs-Canon_EOS_60D

While each is better than the other I suggest you ask yourself what your current camera does not do that you need then make a decision. Too often people think a newer camera will make better photographs when in fact a better technique or glass will sustain them for a lifetime.

I agree with this advice. I'm not sure how much of a factor cost is but, if you go with a full frame camera you will have to replace your lenses if they are not Full Frame lenses.

What was the lag time like.... immediate transfer to the screen? When I started all of this I was looking at the Ranger but the price scared me off. I aalready had a Pad so the rest was doable... but I still want the CamRanger. Keep us posted on performance etc

I was hoping I could save the $300 by using the built in Wifi and the free Canon App it wasn't worth the trouble of connecting to the iPad. I used CamRanger in live view so I didn't find myself downloading the full size image very frequently. It only took a moment when I did review the full size image. I think I read that if you get far enough away say more than 50 meters the response will slow as the WiFi connection gets poorer.

Recently while researching tethering to a laptop I came across the method of shooting wireless to a iPad. "Someone" makes am Eye-fi card that will send your pix to the Pad. Fryes doesn't carry the card but several other sources do.Anyone have any experience or knowledge about this system. It requires some software from Apple (they do NOT sell the card) but otherwise it appears simple and comparitively inexpensive Educate me Hawgs... please

I ordered the CamRanger for $300, expect delivery today. The price looks high but it looks like it allows total control of your camera and viewing from your iPad. It also says it allows you to things like focus stacking which you cant do automatically from the camera. I'll post a report when I get a chance to work with it.

It was there when I got home from work. I charged it for a couple of hours and tried it out. I'm quite happy with it. I followed the simple instructions to make the WiFi connect it to my iPad and plugged it into my Canon 6D and it worked as advertised with no problems. I set it up my camera on a tripod to take the photos attached and sat on my couch with the iPad. The CamRanger App live view is about 3/4 the size of the iPad and gives full shooting control of the camera. I tried out Focus Stacking and HDR. The only time I had to touch the camera controls was to change it to Manual Mode for HDR. I tried the Canon App with the 6D's built in WiFi but it provided only very basic functionality.

Hi everyone upgrading frpm Canon 7d to either 6d or 5d mk2 anyone know which would good for wildlife

I believe the interface on the 6D is similar to the 7D and the performance is as good or better. It also has built in GPS.
