Hi Happy new year to all hogs.. I have a small question here,, I have a Nikon D7100 and a Nikon D750.. I always shoot Jpeg and RAW,, when I view the images from my D7100 on computer the Jpeg and the Raw look totally different as the Jpeg has been processed in camers... When I view the images from my D750 on my computer the Jpeg and Raw images are excactly the same no difference what so ever. I have checked and I am writing Jpeg and Raw, but no difference at all in the images.. Am I doing something wrong in the D750. When I open up in Photoshop there is deffinatly a Jpeg and Raw but I thought the Jpeg would show a huge difference.. Thanks for any advice..

I have had many issues where something is not working on my D750 and had to turn it off then on again for it to correct itself and taken the battery out when it freezes up. I also leave the beep on in quiet mode as it lets the model know the pic is about to be taken. I think it helps. I did attend a christening last week and turned it off for the church ;-)

Thanks for the quick replys. I already have a Trigger smart device but I was after a device which enables the mushroom type of shots where the drops have to be precisely timed. With the trigger smart I have never been able to accomplish this and the Trigger smart was £350. I know these products are crazy prices but it's an obsessive hobby. I dont drink smoke and no bad habbits no holidays for 8 years. I like to buy products which I will still have in years to come. Some of the shots I have seen with the Stopshot are amazing. To purchase this in the UK is £100 pounds more than in the US. That's what hurts the most. Thanks again. :-))

I have given up doing tests, the results are not constant and I am tired of changing the fine tune. You pay thousands of pounds for gear and all this trouble, it's just not worth it. Different focal lengths give different results with different lenses. I also have a Nikon 70-300 VR, so where on earth do I test that Its sharpest at 200mm but I sometines use it at 70 and 300 ??. And a 24-70 none VR. The tests are endles so I just give up. I have gone back to Macro at the minute and I use manual focus so to give my brain a rest (and my temper). Thanks for all the advice, much apprecited.

As you can see from my equipment list, I only shoot Canon cameras, so I have no issues with FoCal. You may want to take up your Nikon problem with them by email. Also, FoCal has a very new upgrade, and it may take up your issue there. If you own the program already, the upgrade will be free.

Also, I bought my original copy several years ago, and haven't paid for a upgrade. If you do pay with a credit card, it should take of the conversion to pounds.

I did contact Nikon, they will only help with Nikon products, When I mentioned Sigma it was a no no .. I think at the end of the day it does make sense to use all Nikon then I could have sent them in for Nikon to sort for me. Expensive hobby though !!

If you focus at infinity and take a shot, and the target is at 10 feet - how is it even in focus? Then you say you focus at the other end of the scale????

A target at 10 feet has ONE focus/distance setting, and it is not at either end of the distance scale unless it is much closer than 10 feet or much further away then 10 feet.

Sounds like you are NOT adjusting the focus ring - how would that change the aperture?

Not following what you are doing or explaining.

Move focus ring to infinity, prepare to take the shot, the focus will move from infinity and stop when in focus to alow the shot to be taken. Then move the focus ring the opposite direction, prepare to take shot the focus will move and find focus alowing the shot to be taken. I dont have to adjust the focus ring,, I put the focus ring out of focus each time so the camera can find focus when i depress the shutter button via a radio trigger, This tests the AF ..The Aperture does change when i move Focus ring..

A true macro lens will change it's Max aperture as the focus changes. That is inherent to macro lenses. While it's said that macro lenses like this can be used for portraits, I never use mine for that.... I have other lenses that fill that niche.True macro lenses are designed to give best performance at close distances, not 10 foot away.

Thank you ..

It sounds like you are adjusting an aperture ring and not the focusing ring. If you set the aperture to f/2.8 you should be able to adjust the focus without any change to the aperture. Also make sure that you are in the AF mode for your camera.

The sigma 105 2.8 has no aperture ring, Aperture is operated by the sub comand dial..

Do you take the focusing ring and move it to infinity prior to each test shot thus enabling the auto focus to work? Light your target well, I spot meter my ruler for equal light at both ends and in the middle too. I use the "LensAlign". I also set a high enough ISO so as to have a fast shutter. Also set your camera up to take only single shot and use a single point for focusing. I notice that you said you are using an f/2.8 lens but sometimes it will only register f/3.5, if that's the case you may have a problem with that lens. Try some of your other lenses and see how they work. You can go on line and look up "LensAlign" and look at the distance chart and it will also give you what the DOF, front and back focusing for your lens too. It may seem complicated but once mastered it's easy.
Do you take the focusing ring and move it to infin... (show quote)

I move the focus ring to infinity take a shot, then move to the other end of the scale, take a shot then from the middle, When i am at infiunity i can select f2.8.. as I focus to the other end of the scale the App' goes up through all the f,stops right up to 5.6. Even though it is a Sigma 105 macro f2.8. I find it strange as its suppose to be a prime f2.8 ???. But I also have the Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro which again will only allow f2.8 at infinity. the other end goes to f4.8 thanks again.
