I would say its down to the situation the portrait is taken in ..
EG .. I do a lot of Stranger shots in the street / events /etc .
I find when I aks to take a shot , they are usually surprised that I should take an interest in them ..
so the pose / expression / can reflect that .. After all , a portrait should Portray the person .
Hope this makes sense ..lol Cheers to everyone .
Hi Everyone .. This is my first post on this section .
Photo taken by me in mid 80's on an OM1 .
It was actually her idea .
She asked if I could take a photo in this pose .
Strangely she never saw or asked to see the finished image !
I get this often .. People ask are you a ' Professional Photographer '
I usually reply ' If I get work then Im professional if not then Im not but my images are professional.. this confuses them and not the reply they had in mind ..lol
I think now days A pro is regarded as a glamorous job , Bow Tye and rubbing shoulders
with movers and shakers .. The rough and ready photographer of the Vietnam era not in vogue at present ..
By the way I cant stand the word Amateur .. To me it sound like One doest know what they are doing ..
I much prefer ' Keen Photographer '
Most interesting topic and I look forward to more comments .
My main thing is taking ' Character portraits ' which I often combine with glamour .
It's often tricky , and have been accused ( by feminist types ) that some of my shots are too sexy .
Though to me its just portraits , Sexuality in photos ( if done right ) can bring out a lot of the persons character .
I've quickly chosen a couple of shots I took .
The colour one shows a lot of character especially with the self harm on the arm . Was just a quick 10 second shot in a nightclub in London .
The BW shot was a posed shot of an acquaintance in home studio .. The photo was with film and untouched . she objected strongly to the result , saying to me ' What have you done to me ? thats not me at all ' !! Cant win .lol lol
yes of course .. But I didnt choose 20 the camera did and I cant understand why as flash was turned on so I would have thought a more higher speed was choosen ... was set on Auto / P
Heres a shot in particular where the shutter speed chosen with built in flash D7500 on P was 20 .. causing blurring .
Tnx .. The flash used was the built in flash on D7500
Yesterday I took a few shots using built in flash on my D7500 outdoors
A couple were blurry .. I though how can this be as the flash synch speed is set to 250 .
Having looked at the metta data I saw the shutter speed chosen was 25 .. Checked the settings and synch is 250 but flash shutter speed is 60 .. so what is the difference between the two ? and why did it choose 25 ? Setting was P mode , lens was 18 -105 nikon .. thanks
Hi Everyone ,
Ive been using CS5 for a long time now with very good results .
Though I do ahve to convert Nef raw to DNG to use it with raw ..
I now have a new laptop with Win 10 ..
I need editing software but photoshop is pay monthly now so dont want that .
Is there a free software that is as good as CS5 ?
some say Gimp is good but not sure if it does raw .
I dont do much editing of images , just crop , maybe ad contrast etc .
I dont swap heads .
Thanks
I recently posted a comment on here that Ive often had not too good results in bright sunlight ... the photo attached is one I mean .. D7500 shot at around 5pm in London ... The image just does not jump out to me .. More of an Instamatic look ..
How did she get a Job as photographer for a local newspaper if Shes a Beginner and does no post processing .. ?
HI , Cant speak for the 7200 but I recently got myself a New 7500 ..
Was an upgrade from my D300s .. which I found very good also .
In comparison the 7500 images are much better generally ( I shoot raw).
Though at first found them very flat till I turned on Vivid .. On the 300s I didnt need to do this.
Was confused as the pop up flash wont flip up without going in the menu .. I was panicking at first as I thought it was a fault ..
As with most cameras Ive had , dosent cope well will Very sunny days .. even at 5pm results were under par ..
any suggestions on this would be welcome .. I use only a UV filter ..
So I'm happy with it .. Not sure if its worth all the money though .
Though one of his Albums was titled ' A nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse ' !! May also be apt for this thread ..
Hard to say , It depends on who's seeing it I suppose ( i remember the book ' Ways of Seeing )..
Eg if a photo is in Time Magazine , then the people that buy it are already looking for a story picture , but then a gain if a not so good photo be published there , would the readers automatically assume that it's a good one with a story ? Like any artform It depends on the audience .. Though some Photos are probably automatic in their story .. EG the naked little girl running from a napalm attack in vietnam .. I personally try and capture character in my portraits , whether posed or street candid ... I think since the invention of the digital camera and phones , a lot of photography has been watered down ... Editors not seeking out the ' Amazing Shots ' as much as they used to ..
