This is an HDR picture of Flat Rock River in Flat Rock Indiana. How does the picture turn out? Is there anything I did wrong or is there anything should be improved? Is the tree in the very front too bright? What do you think of this?

It's a very attractive scene - well done.

These are some of my photographic *finds*, while strolling the back country roads of North Carolina, Tennesee, and Virginia. Comments are welcomed and encouraged.

Nice collection of memories. Some things just get better with age. Good photograpy too.

Very nice! Have you ever seen them eating oysters? They really do that. They force their bill between the oyster shell halves jackhammer style, cut the muscle and pull the oyster out. It only takes about 20 seconds!

Thanks, Birdpix; no, I haven't seen them eating oysters, but I hope to one of these days.

They're all excellent, but there's something about that fourth shot, with the bird stalking off in a huff... ;)

Thanks, RMM; that photo does have a certain feel.

Fantastic shots FotosForFun, can't get sharper than that

Thanks, Gregoryd45 - Here's another that really shows off the bright eyes of this bird.

Shirl2sg - Thanks, but to which finished picture are you referring?

When you copy and paste, Photoshop has, for many versions, behaved the same way. It puts the pasted material in a new layer. Getting rid of the white background should be easy. You can Select -> Color range... or use the magic wand. You'll probably want to anti-alias the edges. When the white is selected, just hit the Delete key. White gone. You can also Ed9t -> Transform and scale, rotate or move the new layer.

Thanks, RMM, but so far I'm not having the problems discussed when I open the two files I wish to cut from and paste to simultaneously as discussed in my most recent comment. As you can see in the illustration the rectangular white background is no longer there.

You need to make the background on the object to be pasted transparent. Here is one way with a jpeg

Duplicate background layer
Make background layer invisible by clicking off the "eye"
Select area to copied.
Inverse selection
Hit delete...the are surrounding the selection with turn in a gray white grid indicating transparency.
To check that there is no stray bits of the background I like to add a stroke under layer style. This puts a black line around all objects in the layer. Making it easier to find any stray pieces not deleted. Turn off the layer style stroke before selecting all. Copy to clipboard...paste to new file.

Thanks, I'll try what you've suggested, but I didn't have to do any of that stuff for a long time. Have I accidently set some switches which your suggestions are resetting?

What switches did you change? I don't think that will interfere with the sequence provided.

I thank you, Rixpix, for your suggestions, but I tried a different approach, which seems to work and is straightfoward. What I normally do is work with one file at a time - that is I open the first file then cut or copy a selection and then open a second file and past to it. When I open both files and view them side by side and then cut or copy and paste a selection from one file to the other, it seems to work without a hitch. Thanks again, and if this method breaks down, I'll give your method a try.

The photograph illustrates the problem I'm having with cutting (or copying) a selection from one file and then pasting it to another. The example uses CS5, but I get the same result with CS4. In this case I used the quick-selection tool to cut the selection from a JPG file and then pasted it to another JPG. The result is a PSD file which shows the selection in a rectangular box pasted as a new layer onto another JPG file. I've also tried making a new layer before cutting or copying, as well as switching to PSD file before performing the cut or copy action, and the results are okay (no background) sometimes and other time the background is included.
