Oyster Catchers are colorful and interesting birds to watch in their natural habitat. I made these photos June 4-5 on Assateage Island, Virginia.
Inspecting the clutch of eggs.
Taking a turn on the nest.
Shakin out the kinks.
Looking for a meal.
Turning and walking away.

Very beautiful shots! Sharp, great color and the 3D look of the last one makes me want to reach in.

Thanks, Gregoryd45 - Here's another that really shows off the bright eyes of this bird.

Tome says their beaks look like candy corn! Really excellent shots. Thanks so much for sharing.

Very nice! Have you ever seen them eating oysters? They really do that. They force their bill between the oyster shell halves jackhammer style, cut the muscle and pull the oyster out. It only takes about 20 seconds!
Excellent photos of these very beautiful and interesting birds!!

They're all excellent, but there's something about that fourth shot, with the bird stalking off in a huff... ;)

I wish I could open oysters that fast. These birds have a serious work ethic -- unlike gulls and other birds that drop their prey on rocks or asphalt.

Ah, but the real question is, is their work ethic superior, or are they just dumber?
Great shots, very interesting birds.
