Sorry for your loss but you have already covered all the obvious bases and the fact of the matter is that $1,700 is simply not enough for law enforcement or insurance companies to get real excited about. If you weren't interviewed by a local detective where the theft occurred then an active investigation is not underway.

If you made a claim with your insurance company the that's about all you can do.

If they deny your claim your only choice is to file a small claims suit against the facility. But you will have to fight hard to convince the judge that they were negligent in some way.

Lack of follow up by house security would cause me some concern but on the other had if it were an inside job the gear may still be in the facility simply waiting for a good opportunity to walk out.

Again, the small amount even @ $1,700 is not enough for an investigator to get excited over. It's more likely to show up at a pawn shop later this summer. If it does it may be discovered in a routine check by local police but hopefully you will have replaced it before that happens.

Page 159 in the camera manual. It's a menu item in the menu area under the area with the pencil as an icon. It's called Custom setting, file number sequence.

The best all around option is Blurb books. Layout software is free and excellent and you can control who has access to your book for either viewing or printing on demand.

Horse has a post growing out if his head in addition to the barrel and amputated tail.

What type of camera are you shooting?

Well they only have about one f stop advantage if minimum depth of field is what you are after. So, since your lens is f3.5 at it's widest aperture you have to do something else. You can set the camera to aperture priority and set the lens to f3.5. To simulate the narrow depth of field you will have to set the lens to about 75mm and back up a little to accomplish the same composition as you would with the 50mm. This telephoto setting on the lens will give you similar compressed image effect. You may have to use a little more telephoto to increase the effect.

This isn't exactly the same as shooting with an f1.4 or f2.8 but it's as close as you can get with the lens you have.

Note to self for the second time:

Always stop and read the original post twice to completely understand what was being asked.

Always move on when an innocent discussion turns into an argument.

Oy, do I need help :-)

I make jewelry which I try to sell on Etsy. I was using a P&S but then I got a Nikon D3100. The pictures were coming out okay, once I adjusted White Balance with GIMP. Now however they are all coming out too dark even with that, and the colours are kind of weird.

Hoping for some advice on settings. I'm using a small white light box with grey background. I have a shop light on either side, which are fairly bright but sort of yellowy. Generally I set the piece on a greenish hued glass brick (but I'm not tied to that.)

Here is a link to my shop with some of my stuff. http://chezchani.etsy.com

Anyone have ideas on settings? I'd actually prefer to have the pictures come out light enough without GIMP but at this point I just want them one way of the other.

Thanks!!

First off what type of "shop light" are you using? Is a quartz lamp or florescent?

Never had THAT problem with Picasa. I believe Picasa thinks it is smarter than mere humans. I have found that the program stores my pix wherever they will fit. AND on top of that--I have a few pix that I did NOT take; have no idea from where they came.
So watch out for this anomally. ALYN

NEVER use Picasa to "import" your photos from the camera or card. Manually copy them to a directory of YOUR choosing then tell Picasa where to find them using the folder manager.
