The above image is 791,056 pixels (.79 megapixels) of a 12,052,992 pixel (12 megapixel) basically compressed JPG image... In any mans language; a heavy crop. The face is less than 1/15th of the total image.

In other words, if I had of filled the viewfinder with the face of this remarkable man the resolution would be more than 15 times greater.

The Nikon D700 is only a 12 megapixel camera.

But it is full frame.

Think of pixels like buckets: Would you prefer
12 million buckets of gold or 24 million buckets of sh1t?

Matt,
I gave up crop DSLR's to go to μ4/3 for physical reasons. What kind of ILM equipment would you be giving up, and, more important, why?

-Please see the quote I made to member 'McVeed'....Currently, I have all Lumix cameras- G3 G10 ZF30 and a little TZ7 for my pocket....

No- not true....I had watched a Podcast on the subject of sensors which persuaded me to post the question. PLUS the fact,I have an ongoing dispute on 'cashback' from Panasonic.

Find a new Canon 5D mk2. You will never look back. They have reduced the price as they have two new full frames current and the 5Dmk2 is redundant but you can still find new ones in the shops for a great price.

Was tempted with Canon -but I'm committed with Nikon lenses I already have....

Cost is a factor, I am retired.....What do you think?- Is there a very obvious difference with larger sensors? I was a 35mm user since the mid sixties until digital- mid nineties....
Your input is greatly considered and appreciated!

Hi guys, -this may seem like a 'plug' but really I have already bought one of this young lads e-books from Amazon and despite personally being from the old 35mm film brigade - I find his material to be VERY inspirational....You certainly won't be stuck for a photo project to set yourself!
Have a browse through some of his work at the above link.....be patient for the page to load as there are a lot of images....
